WWYD? We have a pre planned trip to Disneyland Paris Saturday?

More of a WWYD Grin

Planned trip with DP, DD, DS, and DParents. Flying and staying in one of the Disney hotels, won't be leaving the resort except for journeys from and to the airport.

We've never been before, it's a massive treat for the DC and DPs.

Will lose our money if we don't go. But can't really put a price on our families lives.

Torn between, it's done now so security will be even higher so it will be fine, and not a chance am I risking it.

WWYD?

Dixie I understand that. It was the use of 'just' that probably got me. We can't 'just' cancel. It's nothing to do with me if you choose to cancel. But that's a luxury.
Don't want to have a row about this though. Smile

UnderTheGreenwoodTree · 16/11/2015 00:51

My DH works in London too - in the square mile, so a proper terrorist target. I won't pretend it doesn't cross my mind every now and then.

Dixie, there's nothing wrong with not wanting to go places you perceive as unsafe, I understand completely. I'm nervous on the tube since 7/7, even though I commuted into London on them every day for years prior to having dc without batting an eyelid.

I guess the only argument is that you're letting your life be limited by terrorism, which of course is what 'they' want. People living in fear Sad

I would go to Disneyland if it was booked though - as long as there were no further attacks and it was open.

Sure it is, if it was pre-planned or already booked. You were going to do something, then you're not, because of fear of what 'might' happen. That is allowing your life to limited by terrorists.

Terrorist attacks can happen anywhere. There was a coffee shop and a supermarket attacked in Australia.

caroldecker · 16/11/2015 01:14

I have booked next weekend in France today - if you support them then do it properly.

Good, caroldecker. We spend a week in France nearly every year - we love France and the French people. I wouldn't let this put me off.

Angelina321 · 16/11/2015 02:00

France have been bombing Syria for weeks.

It's only in the press today because of what happened.

I would go to Disneyland.

Senpai · 16/11/2015 02:39

As I said, I would still personally go. But that's me. I grew up during 9/11 and near by school shootings here, and I'm still alive. I just assume statistics are on my side, and so far I've been correct.

You're not fighting terrorism by visiting Disney land, and you're not "letting the terrorists win" c'mon guys, that party line has been done to death be America already if you don't go.

The only thing you will be achieving if you go is having a good time at Disney with your family. Don't pretend there's a cause attached to it. There's not. You're not part of the fight against terrorism. There's no need to ham fist yourself into part of the narrative for a tragic and senseless event.

If you think you'll have an enjoyable time, go. If not, stay home.

The terrorists don't give a shit about your Disney trip. Really, they don't.

ragged · 16/11/2015 06:22

DLParis is still closed today, they were saying on radio this morning. Should be open on weekend, but I would phone to check.

Floralnomad · 16/11/2015 06:33

As far as I can tell from the website DLP is closed to observe the 3 days of national mourning in France ,should be reopening on Wednesday , it's current closure is nothing to do with security issues .

DrGoogleWillSeeYouNow · 16/11/2015 08:26

Of course France have been bombing Syria for weeks, but they went out last night in a clear retaliation for what happened.

I'm watching on the news a stampede of panicked people and a restaurant left totally trashed by people desperate to get out, all because a car backfired or a firecracker went off. I wouldn't want my DS caught up in anything like that so it's not somewhere I'd take my DS in the near future, and certainly not under the guise of making a stand against terrorism.

Floralnomad · 16/11/2015 08:55

I'm not going in the guise of making a stand against terrorism ,I'm going because I have a short break booked and unless it's closed there is absolutely no reason not to go IMO .

UnDeuxTroisCatsSank · 16/11/2015 08:58

Those saying "security has never been tighter"...well, the French police had a suspect on Saturday morning and let him go. I don't find that reassuring.

TriJo · 16/11/2015 11:39

I'm supposed to be going to Paris this weekend - the rugby team my DH supports are playing Stade Francais on Sunday. We are still planning to go unless the match is cancelled.

TreadSoftlyOnMyDreams · 16/11/2015 12:49

I would go unless there is a massive deterioration in the situation before the weekend. It will also in all likelihood be quieter than usual which will presumably make it a more pleasant place to visit.

The risk in the UK is just as high imo.

Topseyt · 16/11/2015 13:14

For me it is not under any guise of making a stand against terrorism. It is me doing what was already booked and going about my daily business as I need to.

I arrived in Paris by Eurostar on a planned trip a couple of hours before events unfolded and am currently on Eurostar again on my return journey.

My DD is working in Paris at the moment and we plan to visit again in February, though haven't yet booked that one.

Some of us have family there, either temporarily or permanently. If I want to go and see my DD, or if she needs me then I will go. Simple as that.

Shockers · 16/11/2015 17:56

I was really hoping that DS's exchange trip to a school in the centre of Paris would be postponed. They're due to go in two weeks time and I'm really feeling anxious about it. I think it would be different if we were all going, but I don't feel comfortable sending him with school at the moment. It might not be rational, but it's how I feel.

BackInWaitrose · 16/11/2015 18:47

Definitely not, hate Mickey Mouse.

DeputyPecksBentBeak · 16/11/2015 19:29

I would go. IME, the security in Disneyland is very good. Any major place like that will have heightened security at a time like this anyway.

The theme parks are closed at the moment (only the second time they've closed) but they reopen on Wednesday.

TriJo · 18/11/2015 09:43

The match we were travelling for got cancelled. We're now debating the merits of going, particularly because we could just drive to Bath and watch my team play instead...

30andtired · 18/11/2015 20:46

So far I'm still going Saturday but I suppose that could all change between now and then. Thank you to everyone for your input, I feel a lot less anxious.

Travel advice from the gov has changed www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice/france but only says school trips should not go ahead

StrawberryTeaLeaf · 19/11/2015 07:25

That advice only covers the period until 22nd Nov, though.
