WWYD? We have a pre planned trip to Disneyland Paris Saturday?

More of a WWYD Grin

Planned trip with DP, DD, DS, and DParents. Flying and staying in one of the Disney hotels, won't be leaving the resort except for journeys from and to the airport.

We've never been before, it's a massive treat for the DC and DPs.

Will lose our money if we don't go. But can't really put a price on our families lives.

Torn between, it's done now so security will be even higher so it will be fine, and not a chance am I risking it.

WWYD?

I would go. Security will be really on high alert and hopefully there might be less queues than normal !

gingerdad · 15/11/2015 19:24

No choice id go.

ConesOfDunshire · 15/11/2015 19:26

I would also go.

Alconleigh · 15/11/2015 19:29

I'd go. Security is tight there anyway and will be even tighter now. And it won't be Paris again next, to be blunt. And you have to carry on with your life, especially when it's a trip you're all looking forward to so much.

Purplepixiedust · 15/11/2015 19:32

I would go. I don't think it is anymore risky than other European cities and DLP will have bag checks and security so it's probably safer than a lot of places. We went in Feb 2014. It's awesome.

Booyaka · 15/11/2015 19:36

They've just said on the news that one of the terrorists is still at large. Probably armed. There have been lots of false alarms in Paris today. Do you really think you will enjoy it?

You also might want to note, there was a similar thread in May about a woman whose ex wanted to take DD to Tunisia in June and she was being told she should let her go and it would all be fine, probably by some of the same people.

It's very easy for people on an internet forum who have no connection to you and don't really care about you to tell you that they should go, and be brave and courageous enough to go when it's just a hypothetical journey which will never involve them going further than behind their computer screen.

It's up to you what you do, but Mumsnet's 'Everything will be fine' squad have been proved wrong before.

30andtired · 15/11/2015 19:37

Thank you so much everyone. You've confirmed to me that it would be safe enough.

I suppose I was worried about making the decision for everyone else in our party, especially our DC & DParents, as didn't want to push them into a scenario that would be my fault.

I agree with the posters saying Paris won't be next again. It's funny as I travelled to our Capitol City today for some shopping for the trip and although I was vigilant and more aware of my surroundings, it didn't make my day less enjoyable and neither did I feel unsafe.

I've also showed this thread to DP & DParents and we're all happier to go now.

Obviously if anything further was to happen between now and Saturday if reconsider and also will be following the news on whether they catch the remaining extremists of said attack.

I feel like a weights been lifted off my shoulders Blush

Not sure
Capitulating to terror is not advisable but I know I just would not enjoy being in DLP right now. I would be scared. I will admit that, even though the Facebook meme is much more: 'we are not afraid'. You have to be n idiot not to be afraid of these murderous bastards.

Whilst there are still terrorists on the run, caches of arms being found in the suburbs and the French army in the street, I could not go and not worry.

Mehitabel6 · 15/11/2015 19:49

Probably the safest time ever to visit!

Viviennemary · 15/11/2015 19:49

I wouldn't really want to go to Paris any time soon. However, you have booked this already so in your position I'd go. Because logically speaking these attacks take months in the planning (so TV says) so the likeliehood of another one anytime soon is not likely. I read the Eiffel (sp?) is to be closed for the forseeable future.

Mehitabel6 · 15/11/2015 19:49

Security will never be higher than now.

30andtired · 15/11/2015 19:52

To reiterate...
I wouldn't go if there was still terrorists of said attacks on the loose so will be following the news carefully.

But, should the police find and arrest him/them, then I'll be going to enjoy it with my family.

I think it's a good Thing they've found a car full of explosives, imagine if they'd have been set off too and how many more casualties there would be.

OP posts:
Shockers · 15/11/2015 19:55

I don't know. I think security will be tight, plus they have their own. There's nowhere to dump a car and run in with rifles and grenades either.

DS is supposed to be on a school exchange in central Paris in 2 weeks, so I completely understand how you're feeling. I'm really hoping that the school will postpone; I don't think anyone needs the added stress of hosting, or worrying about sixty 15/16 yr olds at the moment.

Lachattequrit · 15/11/2015 20:00

I would definitely go. As other posters have said now is probably the safest time you could go to DLP.
I won't change anything about my life because of these attacks.
I would never knowingly put my child in danger, but I also don't want to teach him to live his life in fear and never go anywhere in case there might be a terror attack. It wouldn't keep him safe anyway - the majority of accidents happen inside the home.

APlaceOnTheCouch · 15/11/2015 20:02

We were booked to go to DLP just after the Charlie Hebdo attacks and had the same concerns. We decided to go, on the basis that security would be incredibly tight. We had a fab time. DS loved it.

There was quite a high presence of armed police/soldiers at the airport and on patrol at the park but tbh that probably just added to DS' excitement because he hasn't seen many soldiers in RL.

VestalVirgin · 15/11/2015 20:07

I would go, I don't think they'll strike twice there, not in such a short time at the very least, and it is not as if it would be any safer next year.

VestalVirgin · 15/11/2015 20:10

Also, people avoiding Paris like the plague is basically what those terrorists want, isn't it?

They would count it as success if France suddenly had to cope with a lack of tourism.

bertsdinner · 15/11/2015 20:13

I'd go, I must admit I would be wary but I would still go.

CarrieLouise25 · 15/11/2015 20:15

Security is very high all around DLP. There are armed police that parade around the Marne Le Vallee Station and around the area. ALL bags are checked every day before you go into the theme parks, just as you would at the airport, they go through the conveyor belt/x-ray machine.

Security will be even higher after the attacks.

As you are staying in a DLP hotel, you will literally be going from the hotel to resort and back again; it is so safe all around this area.

We have walked back from DLP to our hotel (about 15 minutes walk) after midnight and felt extremely safe. Val d'Europe (where the main shopping centre is) is also very very safe, and lovely.

You will be able to get the buses to and from hotel too.

My only concern would be getting from the airport to Marne Le Vallee. If I remember right, you will need to get from Charles to Gaulle airport and use the metro to get to the RER, then onto Disney. The dodgy station that comes to mind is Les Halles, but it's not great all the time anyway for pick pockets, rather than anything else. Just keep your wits about you, as you would anywhere in any city.

DLP is awesome, and we have our BEST memories there. And our children learnt some great street wise knowledge when we were in Paris. Enjoy enjoy enjoy!! x

StrawberryTeaLeaf · 15/11/2015 20:22

We went in February 2014 and there were armed police patrolling the park and very thorough bag checks. Go, enjoy and forget about the outside world for for a few days.

Armed police? That doesn't sound very relaxing or festive (or Disney ) Shock

Generation1979 · 15/11/2015 20:35

I wouldn't book to go but I would go if already booked if happy with security etc.

The extra checks/security make me feel much safer. I wish UK theme parks adopted the same security. What a soft target that would be, where thousands of people are in one place.

TheBunnyOfDoom · 15/11/2015 20:55

All Disney parks are like that.

mumstheWord02 · 15/11/2015 20:57

I'm going on Friday for the weekend, been looking forward to it for ages, Smile so have my kids, security will be tight I imagine
