To call the Police

More like a Was I being Unreasonable, as I've already done it, but want a sanity check.
Our house has a flat roof which is below the garden of the house behind us. Students are in that house, and we don't have any problems with them except that, last night, we were woken up by a collosal thump from above, ran upstairs, to see a guy walking on the roof.
I was yelling abuse at him and he climbed up the wall and went back into the party . I'm not proud of this, but was really scared at him jumping down onto
the roof of our bedroom and wasn't behaving totally rationally. A friend was watching him and apologised. It took several hours before I calmed down enough to sleep.
This morning, my husband saw the footprints on the roof and some minor damage and called the Police.
Are we over reacting?

Depends on how minor the damage is really and whether you need a police report number, to make an insurance claim.

I think this is a judgement call only you can make and there is no right Answer - It's is your home and you have to do what you think is right.

I'd have probably have gone and given him an almighty bollocking this morning and warned him any more shinanigans and I'd call the police.

I would have gone round and told them to sort the damage.

Not sure what the police are expected to do after the event really.

do you know their landlord, maybe having a word with him/ her might have more of an effect

No I would have called them last night when it happened.
