To ask if any of you are not registered to vote?

I've tried to register anon but I don't meet criteria.
I could changed name by deed poll but I would have to change all official stuff because now it has to match your n.i number and you can no longer use a known as name.

I know people died to give me the right to vote but I'm sure they would prefer a woman to be safe sigh.

If they fine me will they automatically register me? I'm scared shitless that might happen incase I end up on the public register.

If on-line registration didn't work try going along to your local electoral office (your council website will tell you where that is) to find out about registration. They will also let you know which documents you need to bring with you.
You can definitely opt out of going on the open register. If they fine you, your details such as name and address could be published somewhere e.g. local paper but don't think they register you automatically.

Why would you get fined? I'm not registered to vote.

My teenage dd has just registered. If you attempt to register and don't provide all the back-up paperwork to prove your ID and that you are entitled to vote you may be fined. (She received a letter stating that she needed to provide proof by a certain date, which led to a quick trip down to council office with passport).

Dipdap - it's legal requirement to be registered to vote, they follow up on it occasionally.

It is a legal requirement as p p has said. And you can be fined. However you only have to go on the private register. When you fill the form in there should be a box asking whether or not you want to go on the public one. If you are unsure contact your local council who will have sent you the registration stuff and ask to speak to the electoral services officer.

I agree with OP it is far far too hard to be anonymous on electoral roll. As someone out the other side of DV I do not wish to now take ex to court which would antagonise a whole host of drama and chaos and vengeance, like poking a hornet's nest. I want to be able to vote, and be registered to vote, without being found.
I've moved house half a dozen times since I left, and have no Court Order in place and would not be able to get one this many years down the line without police etc evidence as well - I was always too scared to ask them to caution him when he was arrested for beating me up when I was pregnant. I don't see how I can vote anonymously.

The private register is available to political parties - just not to marketing firms etc. it's not the same as anonymous registration.
