We have the usual situation in an open plan office - lots of people all working in blocks of desks, about five departments all together. We have been like this for the last four months or so."

In the middle of the room, at the end of my row of desks is one particular loud and screechy woman. Recently, she seems to have consolidated her stock phone phrases and is now using them frequently, "Hiiiiiiiiii, its Carol!" eg being one - or words to that effect. Her role means she has reason to be on the phone far more than the rest of us.

Probably more irritating, is anything you might be having a problem with, or person, it is perfect for her or they are fine with her... And she needs more desk space as she is MM and V important. Well, wouldn't we all! Bah.

Anyway, just having a winge, thank goodness for headphones.

I sit next to the loudest person I. Our office. She also has verbal diahorrea and thinks she is hilarious and that we all want to hear her... No shut up, stop belittling me and get some bloody work done!

It sounds like you sit on the other side of our block!
Silence is precious.

Noise-cancelling headphones :-) Otherwise, I don't think homicide is a step too far. YANBU.

I have the same problem in my office. Except we're not allowed headphones. Every time the phone rings I die a little more inside.
