I've never heard this term before but there are several threads on mumsnet

It's basically what us sensible country bumpkins rural types do/have for the bad snow, power cuts etc.

Candles and shit.

Unless you take it to extremes and have a fully dug out bunker in your garden complete with hand grenades to ward off zombies and suchlike.

Our spaniel is 57% of the way to digging out a bunker in our garden. I might suggest that idea to DH when he starts shouting asking what the fucking fuck the dog thinks she's doing digging gigantic holes in the lawn and popping stolen flip-flops into them.

Also, I'd quite like a hand grenade. Just for when SIL and her unruly children visit, not for everyday purposes.

I quite fancy a bunker actually too.

I'd line it with books and have a cask of nice red.

I'd keep it secret too (like the wartime one in Fife) so that I could get revenge for all the times I've had to hang about waiting for DH to stop faffing about when we are supposed to be going out.

I'd hide in the secret bunker reading a book, drinking a nice red and not come when I'm called.

We used to rip the piss out of those nutter American, Libertarian types for doing this. And now it turns like we've got them here and they hang out in mumsnet

Oh, so my MOthers millennium siege cupboard was prepping. How we teased her (and still do as the cupboard is still full of the the stuff bought in 1999)
