Worried for friend that has gone raw vegan and just sat there during a lunch out

I've got a friend who has been doing this raw vegan diet for almost 10 months. She sticks to it religiously. She is looking good and is not underweight. But she has cut out virtually every food group apart from nuts, fruit and veg. Long term this doesn't seem like a good idea.

We went out yesterday to an nt place, and for lunch she just had a peppermint tea and ate nothing, then after lunch nibbled on some seeds as we were walking around. Doesn't sound healthy right?

Hummus requires tahini usually, which is cooked.
Even this so-called raw hummus recipe requires tahini.
Never mind the olive oil (which may not be cold pressed).

Thing I remember about my brother's yr on raw vegan diet was the chewing. He chewed & chewed & chewed. My teeth are problematic enough without doing that to them.

twizzle you need to get out more then

My vegan friend is slim, has great skin, runs marathons, and looks sensational I am well jel.

I wish we could get past these three rather silly reactions to any kind of meat-free diet:

  1. You must be unhealthy
  2. You must be joyless*
  3. You are going against the entire evolutionary history of the world

*This is my least favourite of the three. Unfortunately, it is the one that is often supported by the godawful experience of going to dedicated veggie restaurants, some of which seem to exist only to create this impression in meateaters (seriously, fuck off with your raw carrot and sultanas swimming in water, DO NOT WANT!).

Actually, 9 of the top 10 veggie meals I've ever had have all been utterly decadent, and those in Britain and the US have all been in places which also served meat, because in this country, those tend to be the places with a decent chef and enough experience to win awards. The exception was a shojin ryori (vegan) restaurant in Japan which was so unbelievably good that I honestly think anyone of any dietary persuasion would have loved it.

(BTW, I meant to say and forgot - note the contradiction between 1 and 2. Either you are unhealthy and malnourished, or you are healthy but joyless. You can't win!!)

Most people on a raw diet will accept that they will need to have some non raw foods in their food - things like tahini in their raw hummous, use of Tamari, spices etc are all perfectly normal in a raw foods based diet.

I've never met a vegan that didn't look pale and unwell.

Funny cause most of the vegans I've ever met have been really healthy. My cousin is a vegan yoga freak* and looks bloody amazing on it. (She does take B12 supplements though.)

In fact, the GoadyFucker OP even said about her friend:

She is looking good and is not underweight.

But people seem to be ignoring that because it doesn't suit their narrative, preferring instead to think that everyone on this diet looks and feels dreadful.
