Fucking Christmas duvets??

I LOVE Christmas, so this is in no way a bah humbug thing, but does anyone else think it's getting way out of hand? Every year there is a new "thing"; Christmas jammies, Christmas eve boxes, advent calendar with actual toys (eg lego ones, playdoh ones etc), elf on the shelf, 24 advent Christmas books and now I see there are bloody Christmas duvet sets! When did these all become "traditions"? Only in the last 5 years? I sound like my mother! Christmas has become over-commercialised! AIBU or is it expensive enough without having to add to the expense! Imagine if you have more than 1 child! Is it competitive parenting? Is it over-compensation for shit parenting? Am I just being an old cow? Sorry I just saw the Christmas duvet tonight and it's proved to be my tipping point.

There was a lovely furry Christmas throw too. I can't find it on the website but might sneak back to the shop for it.

Pohtaytoh · 09/11/2015 20:48

Well I've fucking seen it all now.

Santa Pedestal/Toilet Mat

I shit you not

ohtheholidays · 09/11/2015 20:55

I agree with what someone said earlier in the thread about where on earth do people who buy into all this Xmas duvets, Xmas cushions, Xmas mugs, life-size flashing reindeer and dancing snowmen store all this stuff??
NorbertDentressangle

The same as where we put our Christmas tree and decorations in the attic.

Bimblywibble · 09/11/2015 21:03

Eek! We've been infiltrated! This is turning into a bloody christmas duvet shopping thread Shock Grin

LimboNovember · 09/11/2015 21:28

primal Thats lovely too, George also had some great stuff this year, I got dd the next one last year but wish I hadn't now as seen much nicer this year. will have to wait fordd 2 to come up the ranks. Grin

I don't need extra storage personally we have one single xmas duvet which is also used as a spare when needs be...which happens quite often. And yes everything goes into attic.

poh thats hillarious Grin I am tempted to get it just to see look on dh face.

I favour a more minimal decorating style for Christmas, though I do like to get festive loo roll if it's on offer, however I am now thinking I need Christmas microfibre cloths

revealall · 09/11/2015 21:35

Christmas is all about the traditions though. Old tree decoration made by the children. The Christmas ornaments brought as souvenirs on summer holidays.
Duvets will date horribly. You can have them but you have to put the same one one every year otherwise it's just commercialised tat. Ha ha ha.

zipzap · 09/11/2015 21:59

Woo It gets worse - co-ordinated mats, toilet covers and 'hats' (that seem to incorporate loo roll storage) - Santa, snowman, elf, reindeer and more (on link from my previous post - didn't put photos up then).

They also have Santa / mrs santa chair covers...

I got a Primark Christmas duvet last year. I almost put it on the bed in October when I hadn't done the laundry, but it just felt wrong Blush
I'm trying to extend the Christmas feeling a bit really, so it's a season more than one day of presents as ds seems to think it is.
I imagine we will have the same duvet for many years, if it only gets 1/12 wear each year! (And yes, I do wash it during December).

jollyfrenchy · 09/11/2015 23:39

Elf on the shelf and Christmas Eve boxes are two things that I never had as a kid which seem to be all the rage now. I can't be doing with it. There's enough excitement about without it. Christmas Eve is always exciting anyway. We have loads of pyjamas and Christmas movies already, and will have spent a shedload on new things for Christmas so why would I spend another load of money on a Christmas Eve box.

My mum has Christmas towels she puts in her downstairs loo in Dec.... closest I ever came was a Winter Spice flavour handwash.

FrecklyEthel · 10/11/2015 07:02

Mrs DeVere beautifully said.

Duckdeamon · 10/11/2015 13:12

MIL goes in for evil singing soft toys that hang on doors and burst into festive song when you open the door. Last year each GC received singing soft toys, which they fought over. after a few hours of cacophony I hid the bloody things behind SIL's sofa under the festive recycling.

AlpacaPicnic · 10/11/2015 13:24

Well, when I took my festive duvet cover off in February January this year, I did the mumsnet trick of folding it up and putting it in the matching pillow case. It takes up no more or less space than my other spare duvet sets, which now make the grand total of five. It's the size of a flat pillow.

OvO · 10/11/2015 13:35

What utter bastards.

People doing things differently to you.

Cunts.

They want to be doing it tastefully like what you do.

Christmas wankers.

Letting people pick and choose what makes them happy and what they think will make their children smile.

Fuckers.

It's really not the MN way. Send them all off to Netmums!

LimboNovember · 10/11/2015 14:48

FickleByNurture · 10/11/2015 15:15

Did someone say Christmas Toilet Paper?

FickleByNurture · 10/11/2015 15:16

There's tons of the stuff flapping around.

Wagglebees · 10/11/2015 15:18

Limbo is that a good wow or a bad wow? The linen in the pillowcase is a top top imo.

StampyMum · 10/11/2015 17:36

Limbo explain more about your elf - that sounds HILARIOUS!

blibblibs · 10/11/2015 18:23

I've ordered the santa loo cover Xmas Grin

Off to netmums I go. . . . . .

Djelibeyb · 10/11/2015 18:24
