People have been letting them off for over a week now. I'm sitting in my house and it sounds like the Battle of Britain is going on outside, mainly thanks to one neighbour who thinks it's ace to let off very powerful fireworks. I really hate it, my nerves are shot and if it's anything like last night, it'll be midnight before they stop.

AIBU?

rumble have you tried a thunder shirt or a body wrap? T-touch massage?

Noofly · 10/11/2015 21:40

We had more fireworks going off in our street tonight! WTF- am beginning to think they will never end. Our dog isn't scared of them but he is convinced that if he barks his head off for half an hour he will scare them away.

kinkytoes · 10/11/2015 22:37

Wasonthelist thanks for your useful contribution there Confused

wasonthelist · 10/11/2015 22:42

Kinkytoes you are very welcome and right back to you.

WhatALoadOfOldBollocks · 11/11/2015 16:56

Some went off this afternoon...before it was even dark! Pointless surely? unless you're a tosspot looking to cause a distubance I suppose And judging by the area they went off they were right near fields of horses Hmm

"they bring the neighbours and local friends together for a bit of a party"
I totally get that, but neighbours could still have a bonding session at an organised display, or hold a tea party or something that isn't so bloomin anti-social to many.

BeckerLleytonNever · 11/11/2015 17:25

YANBU.

My DC has aspergers and isa petrified of the noise and bangs. I have mysophonia, extremely sensitive to noise.

I also have PTSD after an ''incident''. (cant go into details).

In this day and age of terrorist threats and home made bombs, every tinme I hear a bang it petrifies me too.

Not to mention servicemen and women with PTSD.
and the elderly.
and small children.
and pets.

Not a killjoy but one night organised display on a village green or park for the community, yes.

garden/street/ fucker irresponsilble twunts who throw themn at people and things ...wish theyd get their comeuppance.

and shame on shops and supermarkets selling them.

they say not to under 18's...yeh, right. cos people buy them for under 18s.

FluffyNinja · 11/11/2015 17:46

I miss proper bonfire night as it was when I was a kid and the parents in the street would organise a joint party. It was magic.

I live in rural southern Ireland where fireworks are illegal unless you have a special licence(?). Maybe folks in the cities get hold of them but definitely not around here. I've not even seen any let off on New Year's Eve, which I found surprising. I end up googling the big city displays to reminisce. Sad

RaphaellaTheSpanishWaterDog · 11/11/2015 19:10

babybythesea how awful Sad

Well, it being Diwali, after a couple of nights with minimal fireworks it's started up here again......TBH it's far worse than Bonfire Night itself.....guess it'll be like this till Sunday night now. Going to look into getting thunder shirts for our two dogs......

Off to pour a stiff drink. Or three.

Arkkorox · 11/11/2015 19:13

raph if you have a tshirt that would be tight on your dog try that. It has similar effect apparently

VulcanWoman · 11/11/2015 19:31

Started up here, yet again, Diwali tonight!

rumbleinthrjungle · 11/11/2015 19:44

Arkkorox, thank you, that's kind - unfortunately yes, thunder shirt, t touch, Reiki, bach rescue remedy and a pheromone collar.... it doesn't make much difference Sad

RaphaellaTheSpanishWaterDog · 11/11/2015 20:06

Arkkorox thank you.....will try a tight t-shirt and see if that helps Flowers

rumble sorry none of those have worked - I guess it's down to the individual animal Sad

Arkkorox · 11/11/2015 20:31

Rumble Flowers dps parents dog is the same, last year he clawed under the sofa so much all his nails were bleeding . It's not fair on them.

raph fingers crossed it helps!

BeckerLleytonNever · 12/11/2015 16:34

Diwali is one thing, respect for neighbours and the street and children (on a school night) is another, it didn't have to go on till 3 fucking o clock in the fucking morning.

DC was beside herself, went through TWO sets of bedding as she shat herself (even with pullups), I was jumping out of my skin at every explosion...

thank God the Beatles countdown thing was on for a couple of hours, that gor me through some of it!

theres no need for fucking fireworks every single night. o

one night, Nov 5th (still don't see the need to celebrate a enet like Guy Fawkes)

one night, Diwali.

One night, New years .

one night, any other culture festivals.

hate the fucking things.

Flumplet · 12/11/2015 16:39

Yes YABU. It's a bit of fun for a few weeks of the year. Get your dog a desensitisation CD and cheer up.

BeckerLleytonNever · 12/11/2015 16:56

its amazing that the mentally disabled/ those with PTSD/elderly/sensitive kids/ pet owners are seen as killjoys eh?

kinkytoes · 12/11/2015 16:58

Wow such ignorance and selfishness on here! Glad it's only the minority (on here anyway).

vladthedisorganised · 12/11/2015 17:02

I'm with Firefly on this one.
Organised displays are usually publicized in advance, the fireworks are better and you tend to know when they'll finish.

There are some regulations on fireworks: interesting that the cut-off for setting off fireworks on Bonfire Night is midnight and not 9pm as I assumed!

www.gov.uk/fireworks-the-law

Having had a firework thrown at me by some arsewipes while walking through an underpass a few years ago, it does seem that the law might not be stringently enforced as far as fireworks are concerned.

VulcanWoman · 12/11/2015 17:15

4pm, light outside still, fireworks going off.

PrettyBrightFireflies · 12/11/2015 18:21

it does seem that the law might not be stringently enforced as far as fireworks are concerned.

It's impossible to enforce. Unless there is video evidence from an independent source that indesputably identifies someone letting of a firework in a prohibited place or at a prohibited time, how on earth can it be policed?

I'm ancient old enough to remember the latest legislation being introduced and even then the police were saying they wouldn't be able to enforce it.
The only time I've ever known it used was at a big multi day music festival when the weather forecast for the final day was dire, so the pyrotechnics team let off the finale fireworks a night early!
They were arrested and a community resolution was agreed - they provided a Nov 5th display for the local town that year!

Buxtonstill · 12/11/2015 18:32

You have concerns for animals in your zoo? That's a bit rich, seeing the confined spaces you keep them in so the public can have a gawp and you can make some money out of them.
