my daughter has burnt herself

I just need traffic - dd age 3 just put 2 fingers on the hob- she has got little blisters the size of her fingerprint on these two. Her hand is submerged in icy water but she has been screaming and crying for 45 mins. I can't get her to cuddle me, eat even a bit of junk, watch peppa, she's just screaming in shock and probably pain.
I've got a baby ds I can't get hold of dh and my mum is at the cinema. Somebody help me I'm panicking about her and I don't know what to do

Get a taxi to A&E. She needs to be seen. Pack a bag with nappies, snacks and bottles if you are FF your DS.

Run cool (not cold) water over the burned area (if water isn't available, any cold, drinkable fluid can be used) or hold a clean, cold compress on the burn for approximately 3-5 minutes (do not use ice, as it may cause more destruction to the injured skin).

Apply aloe gel or cream to the affected area. This may be done a few times during the day.

Give your child acetaminophen or ibuprofen for pain. Refer to the dosing guidelines on the label according to your child's age or weight.

If the area affected is small (the size of a quarter or smaller), keep it clean. You can protect it with a sterile gauze pad or bandage for the next 24 hours (but do not use adhesive bandages on very young kids, as these can be a choking hazard).

Call a taxi and take her and the baby to A&E or minor injuries if you have one now. Instead of icy water, it should be tepid (so, just feeling cool when you put your hand in). But go to the hospital now.

Blisters from burns should be checked out imo, especially on a small child.

I think burns on hands always been to be seen, especially on small people.

Icy water is a form of torture and probably contributing to her pain.

As Dovahkiin says cool not cold water is better.

Try and get her to take something for the pain. As long as you make a note of what and when A&E will be OK with it.

You don't need a child seat for an emergency trip by taxi so get her checked out.

Agree with the others. Finger burn like you describe needs to be seen by a professional.

Wrap the fingers in cling film (this will stop the air touching the burn which will minimise pain)

Give calpol & neurofen

Go to A&E, burns to the fingers may need specialist management

Give her pain relief.

I would get her checked out. If you can take a pot or something she can get her fingers in filled with cool water.

Home remedies are ok but she's very little and sounds quite distressed so I think A&E or the equivalent is the best thing to do. Lightly wrap the burn in clean cling film and a cool, dampened towel and get in a taxi. Don't put anything like gel or cream on, it'll have to be removed before the
wound can be assessed and it will
hurt her more. Oral painkillers are a
really good idea, keep a note of what
you gave and when so that they can
give any top up analgesia effectively
at A&E.

No you're not stuff like this just happens. Try to stay calm and get yourself packed to take her to A&E?

I am dh called me back he's on his way home and then I will take her

You're not the worst mum in the world, this kind of thing happens to almost every parent at some point. You need to take a deep breath, take charge and go to A and E.

It's ok, keep calm, it happens.

Cling film around the hand/fingers,( not tight)
ibuprofen and paracetamol.
Taxi to a&e, take a flannel wrung out with cool water to put over the cling film.
20 minutes max for the running under a cold tap.
It's cool enough now.

She'll be fine: my DD did this (only more so - burned the first two pads of two or three fingers) many moons ago, on the hob just like your DD - she was not quite 2. She screamed the place down and DH took her to A&E. They put on a dressing and she was fine.

It's horrible and you feel like a terrible parent, but it's just one of those things.

Give her some calpol for the pain.
She needs to be seen.
If your Dh is going to be a while, get in a taxi wit a bag packed for the baby and get hm to meet you there.

DD did similar with a hot glass candle holder. Go to A&E, they'll dress it and probably want to monitor it over a week or so. These things happen, no-one will judge you.

Don't put any creams/oils on her skin. Cold water is better than icy water. Wrap her fingers in cling film and get her to A&E when Dh gets back.
