I don't know what this means. Can someone shed light on what pulled pork is? I mean is it different from regular pork?!

........ and there was me thinking it was just a ruse to disguise the fact that the original joint of pork wasn't good enough to take a decent slice off so to disguise that fact they invented a way of dragging it to bits and gave it a fancy name.

Overcooked scrags drowned in a sickly sweet sauce.

So last year, daaaahling

kickassangel · 05/11/2015 23:51

It should be made with pork loin, and as with all food it varies greatly. In the US it's a traditional dish from at least 100 years ago. Somehow, it has suddenly hopped across the Atlantic and become 'a thing' in the UK whereas in the US it's about as surprising as finding hamburgers on the menu.

In the South it predates the Revolution. The best sauce is traditional eastern Carolina vinegar-based. No tomatoes, very little sugar and lots of pepper. This sauce is often credited by food historians to settlers from the Scottish Highlands.

And it's not fancy food at all and, of course, in the South, not at all trendy. I can walk out of my house right now and within 5 minutes have my choice of three barbecue restaurants where I can get a big ole sandwich and my favorite sauce. In fact, come to think of it, we haven't eaten yet . . .

See y'all later.

SilverdaleGlen · 06/11/2015 00:11

It's a trend that should go away soon.

Pulled beef brisket however...

MintChocAddict Grin

And to drink, a gin and fruit based cocktail served in a fucking jam jar (also £8.5)

PaulAnkaTheDog · 06/11/2015 00:16

What the fuck is with the jam jars?! If I drink a cocktail I want it in a pitcher cocktail glass!

ChilliAndBint · 06/11/2015 00:21

We've had it in this country since God was a lad. Visit any pork butty shop and see for yourself.

All it is really is very slow roasted shoulder of pork.

It falls apart when you cut it.

I predict the next foodie trend will be ......"deconstructed" cottage pie; aka mince and onions.

HellesBelles01 · 06/11/2015 00:22

I know, what is the point? I'm going to start bring my own martini glasses bucket and straws from now on.

It seems that everything has to be pulled these days. I came across pulled chicken recently Confused

NoSquirrels · 06/11/2015 00:26

Pulled pork, yes.

Pulled chicken is just WRONG. W. R. O. N. G.

headexplodesbodyfreezes · 06/11/2015 00:28

I know. It conjured up a vision of a chef dragging a chicken along on a lead.

sugar21 · 06/11/2015 00:32

ChipsandGuac · 06/11/2015 00:34

Here in the States, it's one of those meals that each family seems to have their secret family recipe that's been passed down the generations. That and BBQ ribs. It's the kind of food you take or cook for football games, it's comfort food.

JoelyB · 06/11/2015 00:38

It's just how we used to cook cheap cuts of pig for a week and a day to make them edible. It's nice mind. But it's just pork cooked slow.

Tartyflette · 06/11/2015 00:44

It's not made with pork loin, it needs a fatty juicy joint, like shoulder or hand and spring (showing my age now) . Wish we still had pork butchers dahn sarf like they do in Lancs and Yorks.
We were in Otley once and the pork butchers was selling hot roast pork sandwiches/rolls, the queue went right down the road. With stuffing , crackling AND apple sauce. Just as good as pulled pork - which I like too as long as the barbecue sauce is not too sweet.

SinisterBumFacedCat · 06/11/2015 00:44

It just sounds rude

SilentlyScreamingAgain · 06/11/2015 01:38

The pound sign is back!

imwithspud · 06/11/2015 08:14

Red pesto????? Really? I may need to try that...

Yep dp loves it apparently (I wouldn't know - not a fan of pork). Mix the pesto with mayo then mix the pulled pork with it to eat in a wrap. Better than BBQ sauce so he says.
