to wish I could dump my rubbish at Edinburgh Council HQ?

Second fortnight in a row my street's landfill bins have been left. So 6 weeks since they were last emptied! Even though we trundle the bins half a mile along the road for the convenience of the bin workers. (They are very heavy when full).

And they are redoing all the recycling arrangements so we now have a bewildering array of bins and boxes and colour coded calendars. It's hard enough for me to follow but no wonder the elderly people can't be bothered with it!

I remember the good old days when the bin men would load heavy bins on their backs and whistle cheerfully. Now they are a bunch of pansies with a "computer says no" attitude. Well, I suppose I save the money my mum used to spend on giving them a Christmas gift.

So, instead of piling up my car with stinking rubbish and taking it to the tip, should I dump it at the door of their HQ? They are dreadfully rude on the phone as well!

Particularly grating as I spend £100+ per month and hardly use any council facilities! (Yeah, yeah, I know it's not pay per use).

Edinburgh Council are particularly arrogant as a council I find. I work with people from all of the councils in Lothian & Borders but find Edinburgh the worst to deal with. No matter which department.

Definitely bombard your local councillor and MSP as well as their twitter.

Grin keep my cover, Paul! Grin

Arrogant, definitely. And full of BS. I saw one give a speech recently and basically tried to convince us that the council doing fuck all about a problem was a good thing. They think we're stupid.

I live in Cardiff. My council have spent 1.2 million pounds changing the landfill bins from 240l to 140l to improve recycling rates so we don't get fined even though we recycle 58 % of our waste. Even though the council are 86 million in arrears ! Five years ago they spent one million pounds each on 2 tips only to close one 2 years ago and the other has got 5 months left. The city has already got a flytipping/ litter problem but the council say flytipping won't increase when the tip closes as we have 2 other tips BUT they are in the bottom half of the city and a nightmare to get to. Cardiff council came bottom of the table for welsh council in every category but even with campaigns they don't listen to the residents and just do want they want. One of our local schools is asking the parents to fundraise to pay for the school roof to be repaired so that it doesn't leak.

Does your councillor have a surgery in your local library? (Am in Edinburgh too and I know some of the libraries have this.)

We feel your pain, fiverabbits! Such a waste of money! Couldn't be more wasteful and incompetent if they tried.

Thanks Travelling - good idea!

What I fnd really daft is that each ward has 3/4 councillors. Some are keen and work hard others just coast along or are only interested in one bit of the ward. So finding who will help can be tricky.
To find your local councillors use www.edinburgh.gov.uk/councillors/search
That link should give email details

UPDATE: I've had a guy from the Waste Dept on the phone all apologetic, promising it is all sorted now! I've noted his name!

I wait to be amazed!

Yay.
Happy dance for you.

Second post

I forgot to mention that every household was sent a calendar to say what bin (black, green or recycling )... would be collected on which day in each area. The only thing was that the green ( garden waste ) bin was left off the whole calendar because the council hadn't worked the collection dates out. You have to ring up the council or look on their website. Couldn't we have done that anyway and saved some printing and postage costs and you have to hope that the calendar was put in the recycling to help boost the figures. WHO ever authorised this should be made to pay.

Just wanted to let anyone know that in edinburgh if you have two kids under three you qualify for a "large" landfill bin so speak to the council asap.
