To think trick or treating should stop before 7pm?

Don't get me wrong: I love Halloween. Treats in, decorations out, pumpkin carved etc.

At 7.15pm I had just got the baby to sleep, and dd1 in bed. Trick or treater's knock and cause the dog to bark and wake the baby. Dd (5) answers the door by herself in pjs, and becomes very excited.

Grrr! I then had two non-sleeping children, plus they cleared me out of the candy which I was planning on scoffing alone after dd went to bed

I would say 8pm if the houses are decorated.

Believeitornot · 31/10/2015 19:59

Put the pumpkin away? We did!

hibbleddible · 31/10/2015 20:00

It most definitely is away now, with a note on the door re sleeping baby. I feel a bit bah humbug now.

IMO they should only go to people who they know won't mind at a time which they know will be OK

CatMilkMan · 31/10/2015 20:05

Trick or treating should happen between 18:00 and 18:02.
We should fire a cannon full of sweets at a large group of children and then it's over.

Dollymixtureyumyum · 31/10/2015 20:44

I think 8 is ok but I am also a big believer in only taking my little boy to houses with a pumpkin or decoration of some sort.

NotMeNotYouNotAnyone · 31/10/2015 21:27

7 is quite early tbh, but nothing wrong with stopping when you chose and putting a note up about sleeping baby. Especially at a weekend, I'd say 8ish would be when i would want it to stop. I live in a block of flats with hardly any families and I haven't had any! Good job as I don't have anything for them.

ButterflyUpSoHigh · 31/10/2015 21:49

7? Far too early. Still coming round here at 9.

momsnest · 31/10/2015 21:51

The problem with tonight is it's Saturday and it's a nice night. They are out in hordes and were until around 9 here.

Sanchar · 31/10/2015 21:51

If you hadn't taken the pumpkin in how were the guisers to know?

We took ours in at 8.30, last caller was at 8.00

southeastastra · 31/10/2015 21:52

fgs would you like a law then? come on get with it, these threads are mad

TimeToMuskUp · 31/10/2015 21:54

We live in a fairly small, quiet family estate so have an unspoken local rule that we only visit houses that are decorated, and they go out between 5 and 7pm. It sounds a bit control-freak, but it works as our last one was at least 3 hours ago now and the DCs are fast asleep in bed.

Surely it should stop when Strictly come dancing starts, no?! Ok being serious now, round here people only knock on door with lit pumpkins outside. If you don't want them to knock anymore, you take the pumpkin in...job done

What 13 said

hibbleddible · 31/10/2015 22:00

OK I accept leaving the pumpkin out was a mistake, but I naively thought that children would be going to bed.

I remember when I trick or treated in the 90s that we had to stop by 7pm.

Sanchar · 31/10/2015 22:00

Several houses here had notes on the door with sweets next to pumpkin. Seemed like a good idea for those who want to join in without the hassle of getting up for the door every 5 minutes.

jorahmormont · 31/10/2015 22:01

We don't open the door after 7:30pm not that we had anyone tonight as I've got nowhere to stick a pumpkin

CremeEggThief · 31/10/2015 22:02

YABU. 9 pm. Although I was pleased I had none this year, as had no spare cash to buy any treats

hibbleddible · 31/10/2015 22:03

As for leaving sweets out, I didn't think of that, but they would probably knick the bowl round where we live.

hibbleddible · 31/10/2015 22:05

cactus do you really take a baby out until 7.45?

OP posts:
pictish · 31/10/2015 22:06

I guised as a kid and there was definitely no rule about it having to end at 7pm. That's a bit early.
