To think trick or treating should stop before 7pm?

Don't get me wrong: I love Halloween. Treats in, decorations out, pumpkin carved etc.

At 7.15pm I had just got the baby to sleep, and dd1 in bed. Trick or treater's knock and cause the dog to bark and wake the baby. Dd (5) answers the door by herself in pjs, and becomes very excited.

Grrr! I then had two non-sleeping children, plus they cleared me out of the candy which I was planning on scoffing alone after dd went to bed

I took my baby out til 8! What do you think of that?

imwithspud · 31/10/2015 22:08

8pm is our cut off. Our last caller was just before then, then we took the pumpkin in. Last year we lived in a different area and a woman with young children knocked the door at 9:45pm. Now that imo was inappropriate.

hibbleddible · 31/10/2015 22:09

Pictish I just would have thought the baby wouldn't be very happy.

P.s I didn't really...my babies are all a bit older now...but I would have. What's with all these thou-shalt-nots after 7pm?

pictish · 31/10/2015 22:11

Depends on the baby surely?

I don't doubt it does, but in this country most babies go to bed around 6-7pm (as opposed to the continent where later bedtimes are normal) so it would be a pretty late bedtime, meaning a grouchy baby in most cases.

cactus 22 months is most definitely a toddler, and a lot older than my baby (7 months) so a completely different kettle of fish.

I went trick and treating with my ds(2) and cousins round my nan's
way and we were out for half 5-half 6. Last knock around my nan's was around 8 which I think is fine, you also have to remember it's a Saturday so it might be a later night for some children. You did leave the pumpkin out as well.

TantrumsAndBalloons · 31/10/2015 22:17

None of my 3 ever went to bed at 6pm.
I wasn't home from work until 5.45pm when they were babies.

Not everyone does things the same- there's no actual law to when babies have to go to bed Confused

BathshebaDarkstone · 31/10/2015 22:18

I'm glad it didn't, we got home at 8 05! Halloween Grin

trufflehunterthebadger · 31/10/2015 22:20

humph. when i grew up nobody went trick or treating, hallowe'en was just a notable day on the calendar and there were spooky episodes of scooby do/tom and jerry/insert tv show of choice which was pretty much it

now there are whole aisles of crap to buy and people ask "what are you doing for halloween" ? nothing, like the last 40 of em

Once again I accept leaving pumpkin out was a mistake.

I know this is aibu, but chill!

Oh and the whole shock at a baby going to bed later than 7 makes you sound a little judgy pants. A) all babies are different B) when my son was a baby he used to be fine with later bedtimes. I certainly never used to stay in all the time just to get him in bed by 7.

now 2 and was not in bed until 9:30

ButterflyUpSoHigh · 31/10/2015 22:23

My children were never put to bed between 6-7 even as babies. I wouldn't say most babies were put to bed then.

trufflehunterthebadger · 31/10/2015 22:23

my 5 year old dd has only just gone to bed as we went to a bonfire. i cant understand the mania for rigid bedtimes

hibbleddible · 31/10/2015 22:24

I'm not judging, I just know that a lot of babies wouldn't be happy with their bedtime and milk being delayed.

I didn't think my dc's bedtimes are early, and they are just as much for my sanity as anything else I enjoy the quiet

BathshebaDarkstone · 31/10/2015 22:25

hibble my babies went to bed when I knew they'd sleep for their longest stretch, usually around 10 - 11.

hibbleddible · 31/10/2015 22:25

Bella we don't stay in all the time, just get babysitters.

In this country most babies go to bed around 6-7pm? Do they? No one told me that when mine were babies and they had temerity to be cheerfully awake at 7.30. Gosh!

Artandco · 31/10/2015 22:28

I don't know anyone who puts any age child to bed at 6pm ( only on here)

Mine have never gone to bed before 9pm.

This evening they did trick or treating 6-6.30pm just local friends houses, then went to a Halloween party 7-9pm at friends. They loved it. The party was full of children and adults age baby upwards ( mine are 4 and 5).

They went to bed on a sugar high at 10pm ( on Saturday nights they usually go later anyway as always sleep 11ish hrs so 10pm bed =9am lie in for us, 11pm bed = 10am lie in :).

A baby at 7months isn't exactly hiking around anyway, they can just fall asleep in a sling/ pram/ arms whenever they like (I woudl quite like to be a baby sometimes)

Alisvolatpropiis · 31/10/2015 22:29

8pm is my personal cut off.

My baby slept through the trick or treaters and the cacophony of noise my dogs made so I'm not so bothered about the noise aspect.

It just gets antisocial to be knocking on strangers doors after a certain time. For me, that time is 8pm.

pictish · 31/10/2015 22:31

I've honestly never actually known anyone who routinely puts their babies to bed between 6 and 7.

pictish · 31/10/2015 22:34

Bathsheba same here. If I'd put my babies to bed at 6 they'd have been up again at 4am ready for a new day! Sod that.
