To wonder why some people driving/cycling along make weird noises?

I've had this happen a fair few times over the past month.

Person (always been a man who has done it to me) driving or cycling along, either shouts something incomprehensible or makes a very odd loud noise as I'm walking on the pavement. It's just happened now.

I have no idea why. Should I be paranoid? Does this happen to anyone else? Is there any reason it happens other than the driver/cyclist being a twat?

What kind of noise exactly?

FruVikingessOla · 29/10/2015 08:46

I have a friend who used to shout "DING, DING" (because he didn't have a bell on his bicycle) if he thought a pedestrian might cross his path.

Kirjava · 29/10/2015 08:50

The one this morning from a cyclist was like a high pitched roar.

Is it street sexual harassment? It sounds fucking annoying whatever it is.

StrawberryTeaLeaf · 29/10/2015 09:01

To make you jump and get your attention, if it's what I'm imagining, I think.

Yobbishness with overtones of sexual harassment

I sing to myself as I am running, cycling or driving.... most people would call that an odd sound.

A lot of cyclists will shout "on right" or "on left" if they are approaching from behind - it is to warn people that they are about to pass on either left or right. With a well maintained bike quite often people won't notice you until you are halfway past and then there is a good chance the pedestrian will move into the path of the bike.

I noticed a lot of that going on last year. Just random roaring from cars- not cyclists that I noticed. I'm completely ordinary, so definitely not related to sexiness! I came to the conclusion that it's some sort of fad tbh, like an adult version of Dick and Dom yelling 'bogies' in public places. Just ignore.

Pipbin · 29/10/2015 09:24

It's because they are twats. They like to make women jump.

Nicegreenhandbag · 29/10/2015 09:25

Yep I hear random roaring. Very odd.

TheSpectreOfMorningtonCrescent · 29/10/2015 09:29

Ahhh, all becomes clear, there's a fad for dickhead year 11 boys to randomly roar, I did think they were harassing women, but thought I was being paranoid (which is obviously the point). Next time I'm going to ask them if they are pretending to be t Rexes.

I was singing jingle bells on the way to work this morning when I was biking to work at half five. Also shouted good morning foxy loxy when one ran out in front of me. Amazing what sleep deprivation can do for you!Halloween Grin
