Only ever see them on MN. Does anyone actually use these words in RL?

OP posts:
VinylScratch · 28/10/2015 14:21

I like a good Vile in RL, the other two not so much.

MistressChalk · 28/10/2015 14:26

I use them all in RL. Plus 'droll' which is an excellent word Grin

MissMattyJenkins · 28/10/2015 14:29

Someone used 'vignette' on a thread recently. It's another word under-used in RL.

catfordbetty · 28/10/2015 14:29

I think your question is breathtakingly [insert word of choice]. It seems to me that many posters on Mumsnet are on the very edge of asphyxiation.

magimedi · 28/10/2015 14:29

Yes, especially crass.

GreatFuckability · 28/10/2015 14:30

I use vile. I only use vulgar if I'm being facetious. Wink

Mouthfulofquiz · 28/10/2015 14:31

I say Vile about twice a week I reckon!

HesterShaw · 28/10/2015 14:32

Yes.

Along with phrases such as "You sound vile OP Hmm"

When I see such statements I want to track down the poster and beat them to death*.

*Disclaimer: wouldn't really do this etc. Or has saying this made me sound vile?

SleepyForest · 28/10/2015 14:34

I use all those words. I am pompous.

MissMattyJenkins · 28/10/2015 14:43

Pompous - that's another excellent word, must keep it in mind for RL use.

WhatifIdid · 28/10/2015 14:43

I think it's crass to ask Grin

UnicornPooStillStinks · 28/10/2015 14:44

Grin catford

Yes, I use them all. Not so much vile, but vulgar and crass I use quite a lot.

Vile is becoming totally over-used on MN though, and it's often said with a slightly hysterical and professionally offended air about it.

MitzyLeFrouf · 28/10/2015 14:45

I use all of the above!

OydNeverDeclinesGin · 28/10/2015 14:50

All of them, I love a good bit of pomposity Smile

EvansOvalPiesYumYum · 28/10/2015 14:50

I often use Vile to describe something I may have cooked, or something I've eaten in a restaurant. Crass, in my head, when worrying what to say to someone who has been recently bereaved (eg, I want to say something nice, but does it sound crass?)

Vulgar, yes, to describe DD's ex BF, who we didn't like and he really was.

ThatsNotMyRabbit · 28/10/2015 14:52

I use them all and I'm dead common so it probably sounds really pretentious.

Trouble is I've got a good vocabulary, read a lot from a very early age, love words and in my head - you know when you think to yourself? - I sound very posh. My internal voice sounds like the Queen.

I either need to use fewer long/posh words or get elocution lessons.

Janeymoo50 · 28/10/2015 14:56

Vile yes (I used it recently in the worst thing ever cooked thread). Also use it when thinking/talking about Ricky Gervais.

Hornydilemma · 28/10/2015 14:58

I always imagine Vile said in the style of Kathy Burke as Linda La Hughes in Gimme Gimme Gimme.

MitzyLeFrouf · 28/10/2015 14:59

'Vapid' and 'vacuous' are also good V words.

iseenodust · 28/10/2015 14:59

'Crass generalisation' is one of my favourite phrases. Agree with Evans vile is useful for describing foodstuffs. Don't tend to use vulgar.

I've seen Vile a lot on the 'spotted' on fb groups.
(And Vial too Hmm Grin )

ragged · 28/10/2015 15:01

My mother used Crass a lot. I use Vile to mean slightly different things. I tell DC not to be vulgar when they burp/swear/pick nose.

Panicmode1 · 28/10/2015 15:01

I say ghastly more often than vile...vulgar very rarely and crass very occasionally.

My DD says ghastly in the most marvellous accent (but then I've been told that I sound like Penelope Keith so it's not surprising she does a bit too!)
