Only ever see them on MN. Does anyone actually use these words in RL?

I think using the word vile is somewhat vulgar actually. Crass is a great choice that I use sometimes.

StellaAlpina · 28/10/2015 20:57

I think I use crass sometimes but not the other two...in the sense of I want to say something helpful/sympathetic or whatever but worry about sounding crass.

I don't use the other two I don't think.

What about 'tacky' - that's another MN word imo. I often want to tell DH/friends I think things are tacky (mainly clothes or home decor) but I'm too polite and would say it's a bit 'twee' or 'blingy'/'flashy' for my tastes. I use matrialistic as a criticism too.

KKCupCakes · 28/10/2015 20:58

Yep, but I use etymology, vexed, and laborious in regular conversation too lol

Sniv · 28/10/2015 21:00

I never hear vile used in real life and find the way it's used on here a bit strange.

Helmetbymidnight · 28/10/2015 21:05

Never. I'm a working class girl - these words would be used about me not by me. Grin

PassiveAgressiveQueen · 29/10/2015 10:57

I used vile to myself on the way home last night, i was thinking about mens public toilets.

MissMarpleCat · 29/10/2015 11:02

I use vile, I also love flabbergasted, frightful and ghastly. I sound like my grandmother Grin

knackered69 · 29/10/2015 11:27

I use odious, nefarious, machiavellian, spurious, specious, schadenfreude, etcetera. In my head I sound articulate, witty, and well educated.

In reality I probably sound like a knob, cos it's delivered in a voice like compo from last of the summer wine, and interspersed with slang and mild 'language' BlushHmm

Jux · 29/10/2015 21:09

I also have been known to use curmudgeonly, and contumely (the latter not very often).

Bettercallsaul1 · 29/10/2015 21:13

I like "curmudgeonly" and would add "cantankerous" to the mix.

BathshebaDarkstone · 29/10/2015 21:17

I like officious. The opening sentence of The Shining (the book) is "officious little prick." I'm sure we've all met a few of those.

IfNotNowThenWhenever · 29/10/2015 21:17

If I see something I don't approve of, like tarmac where there used to be a pretty front garden, or those ugly massive 4 xx school run mobiles, or someone spitting in the street, I say to ds "people can be so vulgar darling".
Because they really can you know.
I then vociferously ( another wonderful V word) protest when I get called out for saying "dog shit "instead of. ..now what is it I'm supposed to say?!
I also love vexed. Or " I believe you are doing this to vex me".

Bettercallsaul1 · 29/10/2015 21:23

I too like "vexed" and "vociferous" and also "vicarious".
