To go back on getting a dog?

Been debating with big bastard DH lately about getting a dog. I agreed that he could get one but I had mH doubts it was the right choice. Today I saw one pulling an annoying expression and it reminded me how frustrating and hard work yang yangs can be. AIBU to go back on it now even though he'd dead excited about looking for a puppy?

Hm that dog ^^ is wearing an expression of pride rather than out and out smugness IMO.

BastardGoDarkly · 26/10/2015 22:42

Is your dh a big bastard for wanting a smug dog? Or was he a bastard anyway?

Yellowbird54321 · 26/10/2015 22:43

Was referring to dog with shit in hallway not dog having an airline meal in a party hat there (that one does look pretty smug to be fair).

Choughed · 26/10/2015 22:44

In fairness, if your DH could reach his chuffnuts with his tongue he'd look pretty smug too Wink

notquitehuman · 26/10/2015 22:46

Don't get a dog unless you're 100% into it. It's not good for your mental health to clean up poo and put up with moulting and noise. It's also a long, long commitment so you have to bloody love animals to get one.

knittedslippersx2 · 26/10/2015 22:48

Not sure why but I'm finding this thread really entertaining

Yellowbird54321 · 26/10/2015 22:50

Good point - beware the horror that is a moulting yang yang.

PacificDogwod · 26/10/2015 22:54

OMG, can you imagine the nastiness of a yang yang's farts?? Shock

OP, don't do it, I'm begging you!

TheAnimatedRemainsOfMaryz · 26/10/2015 22:55

I like this thread.

Even though I don't have any idea what a yang yang is and I'm not going to google.

OP YAneverBU to not get a dog you don't want, however I suspect you may BAtadU to make a decision based on the facial expression on a random dog you saw crossing the road.

YmightormightNBU about your dh being a bastard, I don't know.

IguanaTail · 26/10/2015 22:58

I was struggling to think what a smug annoying dog might look like, but those pictures have really helped me out!!

That white one at the end is smuggy smuggy indeed.

OP my dear I completely understand! If there's one thing I simply cannot abide it's a smug dog who can pull his lips back over his teeth and all the while look damned smug about it. The smug bastards!

TheAnimatedRemainsOfMaryz · 26/10/2015 23:07

The one in the party had isn't smug.

He's just plain pissed.

TheAnimatedRemainsOfMaryz · 26/10/2015 23:09

What the hell is a yang-yang?
Is it baby talk for a dog- like when some people say really annoying shit like "moo cow" and "baa lamb"?

Senpai · 27/10/2015 03:21

Uhm...

LaLaLaaaa · 27/10/2015 08:47

Only thing worse than a yang yang is a smug yang yang.

I think you should not get a dog. And perhaps stop taking all the hallucinogens.

thebestfurchinchilla · 27/10/2015 09:01

Thanks for a v funny thread with my morning coffee!

LittleLionMansMummy · 27/10/2015 09:02

And here is a smug staffie, in honour of the thread where the op was scared shitless of her sister getting one...

Be warned op. It won't end well.

YANBU. you're allowed change your mind, you know.
dogs are a lot of work. really a lot.
they need company, care, attention and endless walks.
if in your heart, you know you don't want a dog, then it will simply be a massive nuisance to have one.

Damselindestress · 27/10/2015 10:53

Base the conversation on getting a dog about real, adult issues like how a dog will fit into your life and who will do the hard work of looking after them, not silly things like their annoying expressions! I can see him being upset about you going back on it over such a superficial reason. Also, does it have to be a puppy? Because puppies are really hard work. They need a lot of attention and training and time. I work with puppies and I love them but I am still glad I get to go home to my house-trained, more independent, adult rescue dog. Puppies really need someone with them during the day at least some of the time, does that fit into your schedule or can you afford to hire a petsitter? These are the issues you need to consider, not their facial expressions! Don't get a dog if you don't want to because they are a lifelong commitment but I think your DH will respond to the decision better if it is based on a discussion of the practical issues involved.
