Ive just watched my friend eat a tub of low fat humourless, half a pack of rice cakes and a large glass of juice

And she is desperately trying to loose weight for her wedding. I usually wouldn't comment on what another adult eats. But I think she maybe very clueless to the amount of calories and has probably just eaten one thousand , what she should have for the whole day just for breakfast.

Should I say something?

low fat hummus is a sin against nature.

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 25/10/2015 19:01

Slight derail, but does anyone else get really stressed about supermarkets continually fucking with hummus? As in, roasted red pepper, lemon, caramelised onion, Moroccan spiced chickpea... It tastes fine as it is, stop making it taste of other things.

forget the hummous/houmous/humourless mix up

You girls do all know it's pronounced who-mousse dontcha? Ask St Delia

ChilliAndMint · 25/10/2015 19:14

I'm going to refer to it as " humorous" from now on.

Quite fitting really; when I see all the dance mummies in their McFly boots ,miserable little Whiteface tunics and droopy cardies draped across their bony shoulders; feeding their little darlings said dip.

5 tablespoons of thaheni for a small amount of chickpeas? Let's be having you??!?

LonnyVonnyWilsonFrickett · 25/10/2015 19:38

I'm with Jesus (and typing that has made me laugh). Stop fucking with the humous, it isn't funny anymore.

You sound like an awful friend
I don't think so, an awful friend would leave her to her own devices knowing she was eating stuff that was far more likely to make her gain weight rather than lose it. Sometimes a good friend cares enough to tell you the truth you might not want to hear, tactfully.

I think humourless is quite an apt auto-incorrect for houmous of the low fat variety. The joy is in the creaminess of the full fat version.

I usually do DS2's houmous sarnie for his packed lunch while I make my breakfast. i make a point of not licking the knife before I chuck it in the sink because, much as I love garlic, I cannot cope with even a hint of it before I've had my morning coffee!!!

Personally, I think she'd be better off with half a can of baked beans on a slice of whole grain toast, plus an egg if she can eat one, but it's up to her, in the end. If she seeks advice, then it might be worth pointing her the way of something like myfitness pal, to help her track her eating, but otherwise, the best thing you can do as a friend is simply offer non-judgemental encouragement from the sidelines.
