Ive just watched my friend eat a tub of low fat humourless, half a pack of rice cakes and a large glass of juice

And she is desperately trying to loose weight for her wedding. I usually wouldn't comment on what another adult eats. But I think she maybe very clueless to the amount of calories and has probably just eaten one thousand , what she should have for the whole day just for breakfast.

Should I say something?

Of course you wouldn't starve to death on 1000 calories a day. You'd probably be underweight though, and possibly malnourished.

TheWoodenSpoonOfMischief · 25/10/2015 08:31

If she is desperate to lose weight then I assume she talks about it?
You could talk about it the next time she brings it up.
If she is following an actual plan, then she might know what she's doing.

Birdsgottafly · 25/10/2015 08:31

A simple change would of been to ditch the rice cakes (which are processed food) and have humus with sliced red pepper.

There's a difference between wanting a lifestyle change and wanting to drop "weight" for wedding, though.

Ellreejee3 · 25/10/2015 08:32

Thats only two hundred calories less than you were on, hardly much.

She's been on it a month now and complaining about no change. After seeing this I can understand why,I mean its healthy food but its very fatty and sugary food so easy to eat loads of.

babymouse · 25/10/2015 08:32

You sound a bit judgmental with the fat deposits comment.

She's not going to appreciate the critique of her diet. Stay out of it if you value this friendship.

(But obviously she is making some rookie mistakes re: the vegan diet, especially assuming it is a great way to loose weight without reducing calories)

Hissy · 25/10/2015 08:32

OP, I'd suggest you spend less time concerning yourself with your "friend's" waistline and more time googling the difference between LOOSE and LOSE.

molyholy · 25/10/2015 08:33

Wow it's a chick pea dip???? Thanks for telling us 'girls'. Maybe she usually had eggs, bacon, lashings of butter on bread etc, so it is a lower calorie breakfast than she would normally consume.

SoloPolo · 25/10/2015 08:34

I would say something kindly. My lovely friend often confused healthy vs low fat.

She would come home and scoff half a tub of hummus with crackers and think it was a light snack when actually it was about 500 cals and equivalent to a meal or a huge bag of crisps. She was shocked when she realised!

StillStayingClassySanDiego · 25/10/2015 08:35

How many different ways are there to spell the thing that is a chick pea dip?

novemberchild · 25/10/2015 08:35

Is a 'chick pea dip' something, like, just us...er...chicks can eat...hun?

RoganJosh · 25/10/2015 08:35

It looks like about 830 calories to me. If she's a lot to lose then that might be ok I suppose.

ChewlipsFromHamsterDan · 25/10/2015 08:35

So that's what hummus is, I'd always wondered!

Keep out of her business.

Ellreejee3 · 25/10/2015 08:36

I have no idea what she's having for the rest of the day. We probably burnt off a few calories dancing last night, but I'm sure less than the ,5-6 g&t that we had.

DoreenLethal · 25/10/2015 08:36

if you have large far deposits

I used to have large far deposits. I managed to get them transferred out the night before the Icelandic banks went down though - thank goodness.

Ellreejee3 · 25/10/2015 08:38

Sorry I wasn't trying to be mean re fat deostis, just saying that someone won't starve to death on 1k cals unless they were underweight.

ovaryhill · 25/10/2015 08:40

How awful to pick someone up on their spelling or grammar
It's just rude and ignorant, but well done, you can spend the rest of the day feeling smug and superior about probably making someone feel bad about themselves

Francesa · 25/10/2015 08:42

A hard call to make, if she is a really close friend, I'd be tempted to say something, but, I honestly don't think I would.

LazySusan11 · 25/10/2015 08:42

I'm so glad you're not my friend. Say nothing and mind your own business.

Moln · 25/10/2015 08:43

They are most likely typos and auto correct, comments are hummus humorous ones not smug and superior.

Though maybe you last sentence was for the OP?

Alconleigh · 25/10/2015 08:45

It's all right ovaryhill people are mostly being rude about the explanation of what hummus is. On Mumsnet. It's like going to the Tory party conference and helpfully explaining that claret is a red wine.

HedgehogAtHome · 25/10/2015 08:45

What's dip?

Tink06 · 25/10/2015 08:45

Am being totally thick here but I didn't think hummus or rice cakes were that fattening. Have a thing about jalapeño hummus on wholemeal toast - pethaps have to rethink it.... I don't calorie count btw but maybe I should as I know I need to lose half a stone that seems to have crept on since the summer. I think you should say something op but in s diplomatic way.

DoreenLethal · 25/10/2015 08:45

How awful to pick someone up on their spelling or grammar

Sense of hummus failure there.

StillStayingClassySanDiego · 25/10/2015 08:46

Doreen Grin

DoveCazzoEIlMioCaffe · 25/10/2015 08:47

Worse to pick on someone for their eating choices I'd have thought. The simple fact of the matter is that the word is LOSE not LOOSE in this context. What's wrong with educating the OP?
