And she is desperately trying to loose weight for her wedding. I usually wouldn't comment on what another adult eats. But I think she maybe very clueless to the amount of calories and has probably just eaten one thousand , what she should have for the whole day just for breakfast.

Should I say something?

Rice cakes are about 28 cals each I think.

How many in half a pack? 10?

So 280 cals?

Plus hummus. Rice cakes are low fat. I have hummus and rice cakes, not half a pack for lunch frequently.

Moln · 25/10/2015 08:47

Tink shop bought hummus often contains a lot of oil, so the calories can be high.

Sneaky bastard hummus.

Sighing · 25/10/2015 08:48

So, you went out drinking last night and she chose this as her next day recovery start off. Protein and carbs. Seems legit. Unless you're with her over a whole week you can't really get a handle on her diet.

Moln · 25/10/2015 08:49

Hey no fair I made the hummus joke before Doreen

HermioneWeasley · 25/10/2015 08:51

Thread derailed by comedy spelling error.

If she's changed her eating for a month with the intention and expectation of weight loss and it hasn't happened then she may well not realise the calorie content of the "healthy" food she's eating. But you need to stay out of it u less asked.

Francesa · 25/10/2015 08:52

Lazysusan, I said that I would not say anything, its very silly thing to suggest that a friend is overweight, no matter what I might be thinking, so yes, I would indeed keep my mouth shut!Grin

Sparklingbrook · 25/10/2015 08:52

I feel a bit humourless myself reading this thread.

DoreenLethal · 25/10/2015 08:52

Hey Moln - don't loose your cool there chick pea

LynetteScavo · 25/10/2015 08:54

I'd pick up the packaging saying I wonder how many calories are in this...maybe I should try it, etc...then innocently declare how many calories she's just consumed.

Moln · 25/10/2015 08:54

Grin Doreen.

Shall need to dip into my puns and rice above it

florencebabyjo · 25/10/2015 08:56

Maybe mention the sugars in the juice. How about vege juice instead?

RedToothBrush · 25/10/2015 08:58

"1000 cals is half your daily calorie requirement not all of it."

Part of the reason people are overweight is because they believe shite like that.

I've just watched my friend eat a tub of low fat humourless, half a pack of rice cakes and a large glass of juice

No one has commented on the fact of that the OP didn't see what else her friend ate all day. I don't think you can pass comment unless you know the full picture.

HeySoulSister · 25/10/2015 09:01

Nothing wrong with eating fat..... It's not fat that makes you fat, it's sugar!!

I lost 5 stone low carbing eating fat

LazySusan11 · 25/10/2015 09:02

Francesa I was referring to the OP Grin perhaps suggesting getting fit together would be more helpful than micromanaging her choice of foods.

Moln · 25/10/2015 09:03

Well fat does make you fat. Too much of it anyway. Sugar too.

Sugar and fat.

Them bastard cakes.

StillStayingClassySanDiego · 25/10/2015 09:04

Sugar and fat , ummmmm Smile.< pulls a Homer face>

ApplesinmyPocket · 25/10/2015 09:04

I think you should ask yourself in your heart if saying something would be out of kindness and nothing but kindness and because you love your friend and mean her well.

If there is any shred inside you of 'I will enjoy pointing this out and seeing her shock', then don't do it.

Impossible for us to tell which it is and the snider replies here are probably because some people are interpreting your OP the second way. Only you know!

DoreenLethal · 25/10/2015 09:06

Moln I shall leaf you to it. I have to go to my allotment and tend my vegabs.

[Like a kebab but made of veg. New concept - I like it!]

ilovesooty · 25/10/2015 09:06

Oh for goodness sake. Mind your own business.

CheekyMaleekey · 25/10/2015 09:07

Very glad that this "girl" now knows that houmous is a chickpea dip.

Ffs.

Idefix · 25/10/2015 09:07

Op you could say something to your friend but I think you would be wasting your time. It doesn't sound like your friend really wants to "diet", I have learnt to say little (unless I am at work Grin) and to make sympathetic noises in these situations.

There are lots of good sites online, groups and nhs where good advice can be received. If people bring this subject up socially this is what I tell them. In my head I am usually grimacing with frustration though.

I speak as someone who has lost a huge amount of weight (over 1/3 of heaviest weight) and is often asked how I did it. Trouble is very few want to hear the truth. You have to be mentally ready and eat less and exercise more and it takes many, many months.

NoahVale · 25/10/2015 09:07

well, how many calories did she consume in that breakfast? I woudl like to know, I had four rice crackers yesterday, with butter and marmite, as a snack, but no cheese. and the butter was low fat lurpak

NoahVale · 25/10/2015 09:08

tell me Idefix, tell me how

Potatoface2 · 25/10/2015 09:08

anyone who can stomach eating hummus (wallpaper paste) deserves a medal.....well done to her i say.... :)

DoreenLethal · 25/10/2015 09:10

I love hummus. I actually call it humorous and have done for 30 years - fun with chick peas. :)
