To wonder if Tesco would give me a new phone

I bought it last February and stupidly never saved the receipt. It was guaranteed for a year. I don't know what's up with it but it's dead, I've tried several chargers on it. When I bought it I did use my club card so it would be traceable, I wonder, is there any chance they'd let me get a new one?

Have you considered asking them?

AnchorDownDeepBreath · 24/10/2015 21:23

Did you pay by card? Statements are proof of purchase too, or they may well help you find it through your clubcard.

mellowheart · 24/10/2015 21:24

I'm going in tomorrow.

A high value electronic item that you could have bought from anywhere? No chance. I wouldn't even waste your time going in tbh.

Fluffyears · 24/10/2015 21:38

I did that with an I-pod I had no receipt and they replaced it with no trouble. Although it was asda who had the 'no quibble refund guarantee'. Most supermarkets are very customer oriented so worth speaking to them.

mellowheart · 24/10/2015 21:39

But I did use my club card, all my purchases are traceable through that?

Not sure the clubcard details would show exactly what phone you bought would they? (like the phone's ID number or something).

I would waste my time asking though, if they say no you're no worse off are you?

Have you had a google with the model and problem? If it's died on you chances are it's done it to other people and there might be something you can fix on your own (if Tesco tells you to f off).

Tesco are shit at customer services.

I once took something back that was broken. I had the receipt. Tesco wouldnt replace or refund (the item was about 2 months old), instead they told me to take it up with the manufacturer and wouldnt deal with it any further.

Don't know about instore, but tesco direct have just refunded me half the price of a fire I bought over 12 months ago as it is faulty. I wasn't even complaining just ringing up to check when I had purchased it as I had no record, so was very surprised.
I think they may be trying to improve their customer service reputation so you never know.
I once brought a tablet back to John Lewis with no receipt, but a cc statement which had the cost but no details of what I had purchased. It was £400 and over a year old but JL give you 2 years. The assistant was reluctant but I argued that the tablet wasnt available to buy over 2 years prior to the day I went in. It took a long conversation but we got a replacement. Tbh I think that although I was being polite I wasn't going home til they honoured the guarantee.

I've just dug the box out and it says on the side Tesco Mobile, so they'll know it's off them. Also proof of purchase doesn't have to be a receipt does it, so I'm going in with it tomorrow. Nothing to lose.Smile

They will be able to look at your club card purchases. I did this once (having paid cash) with a hudl.

AnchorDownDeepBreath · 24/10/2015 22:25

Yep, they'll do it. They don't legally have to help you find proof of purchase but they usually do, if you're nice about it.

Best of luck.

sickofforgettingpassword · 24/10/2015 22:25

I rang tesco when my steriliser broke and they emailed me my proof of purchase from my club card statement. I didn't know which month I'd bought it in or the exact price but they still helped and found it. Definitely give them a call x

mellowheart · 24/10/2015 23:25

I've just checked my diary and I have the exact date I bought it. I hope that will help.

I had a phone that died and they replaced it without any problem
They even replaced it with a higher value phone
I did buy online though so proof was there

mellowheart · 25/10/2015 17:00

Thought I'd let you all know what happened in Tesco. I got told they couldn't do anything without the receipt (no surprise) but they gave me this electrical helpline number, (which puzzled me because a mobile isn't electrical) and told me that they might give permission, via a reference number to get a new phone. Anyway I rang the number and they said they only deal with electricals Hmm, but....if I give them my details including club card number they'll put a trace on my purchase. I will hear from them within 72 hours apparently. So I'm feeling hopeful. Smile
Thanks for all the replies.

Is it on the tesco mobile network?
Have a look at the tesco mobile webpage.
www.tescomobile.com
They list troubleshooting for different types of phones and often offer webchat.
They also have a technical support number
0345 300 6660

Have your mobile number and box to hand when you contact them.

bruffin · 25/10/2015 17:20

I dont know what brand of phone you have
With Samsung they can just look up the code inisde and see when it was made. We have a samsung repair centre locally and just take phone/tablet there and they know how old it is. Only problem may be near end of warranty. I took dd's tablet in last week without proof of when it was purchased. i know it was purchased christmas eve 2013. They said it had one month left on the warranty from the code, however if i had proof of purchase they would have covered it upto christmas eve IYSWIM.

mellowheart · 25/10/2015 18:44

I'll give that a try rat, thank you. It's a Nokia bruffin.
