I know its a 12 which I assume is for the violence but if you have seen it is there anything else not suitable? Considering taking my (grown up looking) 9 year old this tonight as it looks great and 'educational' but don't want her to see any sex scenes/bad swearing etc? Advice?

I wouldn't there are parts that are very dark and sad, other things such as sexual violance and force feeding that would be very hard for a nine year old to watch, it's an amazing film with fantastic acting but it's 12 for a rEason.

I saw this yesterday. There is a forcefeeding scene which is horrible. The factory manager molests a young girl and it's clear he used to molest the main character, too. The violence at the end (horse race and death) and a crowd scene where women are beaten up by the police are upsetting. I think she's too young. The director deliberately made it suitable for 12 year olds so that teenagers could know their own history, but I think 9 is just too young.

Ok - thanks for replies - not taking her!

It's and amazing film, but not for a 9 year old.

Me and 2DFriends were frequently in tears last night.

Don't want to put you off, but it's a 12 for a very good reason.

It's a Film4 film, so it won't be too long before it's on TV. Plenty of time to watch it with your DC in time to come. Took DS1 and DS2 to see it (teenagers) and it was educational for them.

My DD went with Guides so she and many others were 10. One had to leave as she found it upsetting but DD said the teenage young leaders were the most upset. DD is not terribly empathetic and had no problems at all with it so I think it depends on your child.

As a guider I am amazed they were taken to be honest, it is not a film for ten year olds.
