To be fuming with this supermarket?

I've name changed because this is quite

On Monday Ds lost his prepaid kids debit card in Our local supermarket. I went to customer service to see if it had been handed in. It had so I showed Id, wrote down my name and address, signed for it and left.

What I didn't know was that I had been told to write it in the wrong place and had signed for some cash that had been found instead. So then the person who lost the cash comes to claim it and is told I've already claimed it and is shown my name and address and told to phone the police.

I found out today from a friend that I was being accused of stealing this money. So I go to the supermarket, they admit it what happened straight away and get the police to come so they can let the person who's money it was know I hadn't claimed it. The money was still in the safe.

I don't like people thinking I'm a thief. The person who's money it was could have come to my house and done anything.

No idea what there was to misunderstand here, I thought it was very clear what had happened from the OP and don't really know how it could have been made clearer.

Yes I would complain about this, nobody should be giving out your name and address to the general public without your permission, especially after telling said member of public you stole from them, they could have been unhinged and taken revenge!!

Sixpencenonethericher · 21/10/2015 19:21

Yes it is I can't stop laughing

Moln · 21/10/2015 19:22

Hang on, did you get the debit card back?

Pretty sure the supermarket shouldn't have handed out your address. Also if I were you I'd have a word with why you friend didn't say something at the time such as "I'm pretty sure Betty wouldn't do that, I know her!!"

I think my sister uses MN

You should have a word about the data protection breach, and the inconvenience.

I think What happened is that the old dears came to customer services and said "Doris left £30 in the first self service til around 1pm was it handed in? And dickhead in CS says "oh that was already collected I think- yeah look this lady signed for it (shows book)"

And as chocckyp1g said earlier it could be deliberate so a dodgy staff member could pocket the cash at some point

GruntledOne · 21/10/2015 19:34

OP, could you help us out and ask Edna wtf she was doing not sorting this out as soon as she realised it was you that Doris was calling the police on?

Fuminglikeafumingthing · 21/10/2015 19:35

Moln yes I did get the debit card back.

Thanks Helen, see I am not a troll nor a sock puppet and I do have a baby and a constantly disappearing pair of glasses and a sweary big Sister who sticks up for me.

OP I think I love you! Wink

saucony · 21/10/2015 19:36

The OP really wasn't that confusing. I mean, adding the names is confused me but I grasped it first time and I'm not very bright. Grin

I don't like my sister that much and the feeling is mutual. I doubt she'd have my back like yours did. You are lucky. :)

saucony · 21/10/2015 19:37

You need one of those chain things around your neck and you'll never lose your glasses!

MazzleDazzle · 21/10/2015 19:40

Fucking hell!

FWIW I understood the entire story from the beginning and found it believable. I used to work at a supermarket customer service desk and I live in a small town, so I speak with some authority! Wink I think fuckingfuming should March up to customer services and rant. It's well worth a free voucher!

Can't really understand why this thread got reported so many times. You lot are worse than playground kids - I'm telling on you!. This thread has made me laugh though. Grin

Oh, and sixpence I thought your swearing was justified!

ConstanceMarkYaBitch · 21/10/2015 19:41

People are finding some very normal things odd. If you lose money, and someone finds money, its not that hard to match the two up if you know how much was lost (and found) and where exactly both occurred. Really easy in fact.

Fuminglikeafumingthing · 21/10/2015 19:42

I did march up to customer service and rant a lot.

Sixpencenonethericher · 21/10/2015 19:42

Aww thanks

MazzleDazzle · 21/10/2015 19:42

PS Edna sounds like a shit-stirring bitch. I'd ditch her OP!

MazzleDazzle · 21/10/2015 19:44

What did Customer Services say fucking?

Fuminglikeafumingthing · 21/10/2015 19:44

I think she was trying to help to be honest.

Reading this really upset me, it felt like gaslighting

Fuminglikeafumingthing · 21/10/2015 19:49

they admitted giving out my name and address, apologised, showed me the book where my name had been written then scribbled out and rewritten on the correct page and called the police. Then we went to the office, through the staff room where we got stared at, even more so once the police officer arrived, I'm sure the staff in there thought I got caught shoplifting or something. The police officer listened to the story, asked where the money was, it was still in the safe and said she would talk to the woman who's money it was and tell her to come and collect it. They apologised again a lot and said that they would make sure it didn't happen again.

hippoherostandinghere · 21/10/2015 19:52

Fuck this, people having MN sisters and I can't even have a real life sister.

GruntledOne · 21/10/2015 19:57

The OP really wasn't that confusing. I mean, adding the names is confused me but I grasped it first time and I'm not very bright

Why do people keep posting this sort of comment when it's been pointed out more than once that people aren't confused with the OP, just puzzled by the circumstances around it?

GruntledOne · 21/10/2015 19:59

Hang on, the police came trailing out to the supermarket in order to be told that nothing had been stolen? WTF?

Fuminglikeafumingthing · 21/10/2015 20:02

Yes gruntled they did. Small town see, not much happens.

OP posts:
Fairenuff · 21/10/2015 20:02

Did you not even get store dollars from them OP?

tibbawyrots · 21/10/2015 20:12

Was it a real Police officer or a pretend one (PCSO) like we have around here?
