Now im in no way bashing benefits. I am a mum to my wee boy and am currently on benefits and its bloody hard going but i manage as best i can.
But watching this programme im watching with shock, it really isnt nice viewing. There are people using food banks and their 6yr old got a petrol quad for his birthday Shock the impression that i got from this is that they seem to be proud of the life they have on benefits and seemed gloaty. Now i know i may get flamed for my views but people on benefits get a hard enough time without cases like this tarring us all with the same brush

""What I wonder about it how the people who are permanently on benefits can avoid this. ""

In this Family's case, they are on Working Tax Credit and Child Tax/Benefit.

ohtheholidays · 19/10/2015 22:42

I hate tv like that.I feel really sorry for the poor children, the parents are adults and made they're decisions but those poor kids have no choices at all.

It was so worrying how much she smoked right upto the day she was having a caesarean and the Mum and Dad were smoking right over they're own very young children and letting they're 15 year old smoke.

I also felt very sorry for the poor animals having to live in those kind of conditions as well,I hope someone somewhere steps up and stops them from breading those poor dogs.

It's no way for any child or pet to live, surrounded by dog muck and all the mess everywhere and from what I saw there was nothing physically stopping either of the parents taking care of the home for they're childrens sakes.

Unsurechicken · 19/10/2015 22:45

I actually think she's getting a lot of stick.

Benefit wise they will be getting
Child benefit
Child tax credits
Housing benefit
Council tax benefit.

The housing and council tax benefit will be particularly covered but also they take into consideration his wage which iirc was £250 a week so let's call it £1100 a month.

She won't be able to claim job seekers or income support if her husband works and we saw that when he couldn't get work it would mess up there budget.

People spend a lot of money of their children all year round or only at birthdays or Christmas, I have a friend that is with her partner neither work one child school age and they both take out credit and catalogue debt to ensure their child wakes up to a massive pile of presents. The house is full of crap literally toys everywhere. Surely benefit mum as she said they were paid for out of child benefit is doing the better of the two situations here?

Strange world we live in being judged for the way you bring your children up.

As they say it takes a village to grow a child she and many many others don't have that family support I know I don't.

EternalDalmatian · 19/10/2015 22:48

I don't give two fucks if they have 50 kids on benefits.

I couldn't get past the fags, the smoking when heavily pregnant and especially around the very young kids. It made me feel a bit ill and I agree with a pp - the fact that they're skanky, dirty scumbags is pretty much proven to me, and it has nothing to do with benefits. Feel very sorry for the poor kids.

IceBeing · 19/10/2015 22:50

I saw a program once about people driving counterfeit goods all over the country in white vans...and it didn't occur to me even once to imagine this meant that ALL white vans are full of knock offs.

The problem really isn't TV programs like this that show borderline criminal antisocial behaviour...the problem is people who believe that because channel 5 can find one person doing this, ALL or even a substantial minority of claimants are the same.

futureme · 19/10/2015 22:50

Is it really that unusual to leave stripped wallpaper? glares at half stripped wallpaper that needs doing. I have a half painted room too which I haven't got around to finishing....

Booyaka · 19/10/2015 22:54

Whatever the rights and wrongs of the benefits they are claiming, they do seem to be a pretty unpleasant couple. Claiming benefits doesn't automatically make you a bastard. It doesn't automatically make you a saint either, and this pair seem like a pair of shits frankly.

Cloppysow · 19/10/2015 22:59

I'd quite like to see a similar programme called "Britains worst tax dodgers" rolled out as regularly as this guff.

Bakeoffcake · 19/10/2015 23:02

They did seem quite unpleasant people, lying to school and his work infront of the children and smoking constantly around those babies.

Can the medical staff give anything to newborn babies to help with the fact they must be addicted to nicotine?

TheFairyCaravan · 19/10/2015 23:08

I usually don't give a fuck when it comes to programmes like this, but this one wound me up. I!m going to have to fight tooth and nail to keep my DLA when I'm looked at for PIP in a couple of months, but that family can keep having kid, after kid, after kid and expecting the government to support them.

There is no way on this earth, IMO, they would have had so many if they weren't getting any extras from the State. The bloke was panicking when he lost his job, he needs a part time job, paying shit wages other wise they won't get all their tax credits, being on JSA was bad for them.

I'm sorry but they're a disgrace. She was smoking all through pregnancy, he was smoking in the car with the kids and the eldest child was smoking too. The house was bloody filthy and the dogs were shitting everywhere. Fucking vile IMO.

mathanxiety · 19/10/2015 23:08

I know they arent reflective of the vast majority but people seem to think thats what all benefit claimants are like which couldnt be further from the truth

And that is why you should be angry with whoever made this programme and not the suckers who agreed to be filmed.

Too many people are willing to believe they pay taxes so shitty people can sit on their arses all day and take honest citizens for a ride. The premise of this programme is therefore horrible, a cheap shot at everyone who uses benefits.

Oh and lots of people have their children before they fall on hard times. Speech that includes the word 'breeders' or the concept of 'breeding' is half way to completely dehumanising your fellow human beings.

Agreeing with Jeanne and Birds here..

If you don't like the way Britain's fantastic safety net works, try living in the US where there is none, or even in Ireland, where governments have always relied on poor people emigrating to solve their problems.

PainAuChocolat23 · 19/10/2015 23:16

math i am angry at the programme makers as no doubt they will edit it to make it worse than it actually is but some of the things that were said from the mum and dad in the bits i saw werent nice. One that irked me is the breeding the 4 dogs and having 10 pups apiece Angry a dog isnt just for making money from

OP posts:
mathanxiety · 19/10/2015 23:20

Thus the dog lovers of Britain are also expected to start frothing at the mouth. This programme hits all the buttons.

Damselindestress · 19/10/2015 23:57

I wonder if they've declared the income from breeding those dogs to HMRC?

I hate those shows because they find the worst examples who aren't representative of the majority of benefit claimants.

Summerwood1 · 20/10/2015 00:03

They may get a lot of money in benefits but I certainly don't envy them. What a life they lead, they have little respect for themselves or their home. I feel for the children, they are very likely to have problems due to people's perception of the family. It's so selfish to smoke in front of the children everyone is aware of the dangers of breathing in cigarette smoke.

LucyBabs · 20/10/2015 00:05

jenenne I can't see what the child John has to do with abortion, neglect or benefits Confused

hopgarden1 · 20/10/2015 00:16

What about the not wearing a helmet on the petrol quadbike!? That's plain stupid and asking for trouble.

guajiraguantanamera · 20/10/2015 01:27

TheFairyCaravan totally agree with you. If you can't quit smoking/drinking/taking drugs for 9 months don't get pregnant! (And I say that as a smoker)

So would I. Difference is I don't think they would be stupid enough to happily appear on it and very likely to sue the TV company if done without their cooperation. I'm sure it has been floated as an idea, unfortunately the targets are too powerful. But yes, it would really be great. Maybe we should all write to TV companies and suggest it? I think I might.

YANBU at all about this. It really does help enforce stereotypes.

But, I really think that these people have no idea what they're getting themselves into. By all accounts, these programmes are so heavily edited that a situation can and will be made to look 100 times worse. The frothers love to watch this stuff, after all!

I'm not condoning their choices but they're entitled to make them.

Some of their behaviour is unpardonable. But I wouldn't be surprised to find most conversations/backgrounds on the clipping room floor.

gamerchick · 20/10/2015 08:09

I would like to see programs about tax evasion and those at the top and how they spend their expenses me.

I see this one as all the other propaganda gets a mention but programs to gauge public reaction don't. Like the food bank or can't pay benefits special was upsetting to watch.

Propaganda works, we're all doomed.

I think it is quite misleading actually. She is only receiving what millions stay at home mums do. It made it seem like they both do nothing.
I live in the town they moved to and I'm sure they wanted to make it look as bad as possible!

Totally don't agree with her smoking and whatever whilst pregnant, disgusting.
