All his rhetoric about anyone can become rich through hard work boils me. Luck has a lot to o with it, far more than any billionaire would ever admit to. Also talking about everyone should move to China if JC comes in, he's just saying that as most of his money is invested in property and he's currently trying to sell off expensive London property to overseas investors - thus making London even more unaffordable to locals. He's benefitted massively from the housing boom that is causing misery for millions .

That was a birthday present. I think it was from Asda!

Now I'm picturing Tiggy-winkle going "You ain't got no bladdy sense! The lotta ya! No bladdy business acumen!"

and yeah I didn't "like" him per se, but I thought he was alright until those comments. Is he trying to compete with Donald Trump do you think?

Which is which?

He's made most of his money from property, I believe. His business sense is questionable; he thought the IPod was a dead duck, and thought the Amstrad Emailer was a good idea.
And he has a face like a bollock.

He has made it mostly from property , benefiting from the huge increases as the bank prints money.

Yes he said that about the iPad, he also told bill gates that there was no money to be made in software.. Very questionable, he's been very very lucky.

Amstrad products don't seem to be remembered with affection or respect, do they? Were they innovative, stylish, cheap?

He made money but he didn't make a reputation like, say, Clive Sinclair (pre C5) or James Dyson.

Lol my Mum hates Alan Sugar. Thinks he's the most arrogant man alive - even more arrogant than my father ;)

hackmum · 18/10/2015 15:40

nippiesweetie - although I find Alan Sugar utterly charmless, I do have fond memories of buying an Amstrad PCW 8256 in the 80s. It was my first computer - a dedicated word processor that came complete with a dot matrix printer for the knockdown bargain price of £399 (iirc). Thousands upon thousands of people bought them - it was a real success story.

Since then, though, he seems to have done very little of note.

Watching Alan Sugar have a Twitter spat with Donald Trump and wondering who to root for was like trying to pick a favourite from syphilis and gonorrhea.
