To have told my niece I'm not mad on her choice of name feel a bitch

My niece has a little boy, 6 with a "normal name" popular and nice.
She's due in about 7 weeks I think with a baby girl. She lives about an hour away so don't see her loads, we've just chatted on the phone and she's mentioned her choice of name. I really wish I'd have said oh that's cute or something and as we were on the phone could probably have got away with it.

But I think I went quiet and said "oh right....Mmmmm I'm not mad" argh I feel like a cow, it's nothing to do with me.

My sister(her mother) has just text me saying I believe you don't like daughters choice of name, she's offended.

How can I put this right, we aren't particularly close but I really don't want to make anyone feel bad, especially when pregnant.

It's just a silly name, sorry but it is.

Thanks Anemone and Reni.
My schoolfriend always wanted twin girls called Harmony and Melody.

LeftMyRidingCropInTheMortuary · 16/10/2015 21:32

That seems positively conservative compared to Kandy-Raine.

I remember thinking when watching Neighbours in the 1980s that "Sky" was a mad name.

Usual, dear, I beg of you not to read any more AIBU as you may clutch your pearls so hard that you strangle yourself!

reni2 · 16/10/2015 21:35

I think this thread is as responsible for the bad weather as it is for bullying in schools.

AnemonesCloser · 16/10/2015 21:35

I remember thinking Skye Mangle had a way out there name too!

Usual, I highly doubt anyone could even SAY that name with a straight face!

I suppose at least the poor kid will grow up hard as anything from having to learn self-defence at a young age!

CharityBarnum · 16/10/2015 21:37

This thread reminds me of the Pram in the Hallway one where there was a gentle 'Oh Dear, YABU I'm afraid' and then when the photo was posted a unanimous 'fucking hell YANBU'

LeftMyRidingCropInTheMortuary · 16/10/2015 21:38

Nah, I don't eat chips. They're for neds. Like Kandy-Raine.

I think usual is a sort of reverse troll or something!

Anyhow, bullying is even seen in nature. It's survival of the fittest. So shove that in your twinset, DEAR!

Oooh what was the pram in the hallway?

hiddenhome2 · 16/10/2015 21:39

Actually, I've just realised something else that Candy means and it's really horrible. The spunk thing is bad enough though. You really do have to tell her about that. The poor kid Sad

ENtertainmentAppreciated · 16/10/2015 21:39

Absolutely your child, your choice.

But alongside that comes the absolute fact that a child is not a bloody whimsy, a toy, a prop to indulge your idiotic fantasies.

A new born baby will in fact become a real live PERSON in their own right and as such deserves a bit of bloody respect from its parents.

LeftMyRidingCropInTheMortuary · 16/10/2015 21:41

What Entertainment said about respect.

Candy = cocaine?

I wouldn't even call my PET such a twee name!

My pets all get sensible names (unless they're from a sanctuary in which case they keep the one they come with).

hiddenhome2 · 16/10/2015 21:43

Not cocaine.

Hard Candy is what people in the deep web call child abuse images.

(K)Candy is bad, she can't call her that Sad

LeftMyRidingCropInTheMortuary · 16/10/2015 21:43

Um, I don't think the OP's original intention was to slag off the name.
Can I remind you that MN is anonymous?
And everyone slags their family off!

BeanIontach · 16/10/2015 21:44

At the risk of outing myself here, apparently my mum wanted to call me Kerry-Anne. (born in the 70s) and my Granddad, who died when I was tiny, but for this one huge contribution to my life said "what, Kerry-Anne, she'll be called carry-on". while the bump grew he said 'still planning to call that child Carry-on camping?" My mum was annoyed but thankfully at the last moment she couldn't bring herself to risk it. I'm glad my mum wasn't surrounded by people telling her ''it's your baby, how rude is your fil!"

AnemonesCloser · 16/10/2015 21:44

I don't think you can bully someone in utero.

LeftMyRidingCropInTheMortuary · 16/10/2015 21:46

Yuk. Google agrees with me re the cocaine tho, just did a search.

LeftMyRidingCropInTheMortuary · 16/10/2015 21:46

Snort at Anemones!
