to never wash my face?

I used to. Did the Clinique 3 step, cleanse, tone and moisturise. Then I had kids and ran out of time and cash!

I started using beauty wipes. Now I just use baby wipes! I clean my minimal make up off every night with a wipe then moisturise. That's it.

I occasionally swish round with a warm flannel when in the shower.

Is this bad? I know wipes are environmentally not great but aside from this? Friends and ladies on beauty counters try and sell me lotions and potions....my skin looks fine.

Battery I tried Dove once and it was like battery acid on my face.

ouryve · 15/10/2015 20:27

I bought some facial wipes to use to freshen up when DS2 was a newborn and they left my face feeling horrible.

I just use a light, gentle slightly foaming cleanser and a touch of moisturiser and exfoliate gently every couple of weeks (just with Lush dreamwash - nothing scrubbier - it takes the dead skin off in very satisfying rolls) as I have a problem (all over my body) with dead skin build up and my face gets flaky and spotty if I don't periodically shift it.

Currently in between face washes, mind. Still not a replacement that I like for the Clinique comforting cream cleanser. They replaced it with the redness solutions cleanser and it's just horrible greasy gunk that gives me blackheads (for the first time in over a decade, since I discovered the comforting cleanser - which cost me about £2 a month to use as a little went a long way.

YANBU. I have adopted the less is more approach since my kids came along six years ago and I hardly ever wear make up. DH is always saying 'Haven't you washed your face tonight??' in absolute horror.

I swear my skin hasn't been affected at all. I generally wash with a warm flannel in the morning if I CBA and the same in the evening. When I shower, I usually use a flannel and a mild cleanser if I remember to bring it in with me. A basic moisturiser with SPF follows......and that is it!

Quids in and good skin to boot.

whatlifestylechoice · 15/10/2015 20:38

Yeah, I've also adopted the warm flannel and water approach. I haven't noticed much difference good or bad to my skin. I rarely wear make-up these days, however, and live in the country so not much pollution.

NiNoKuni · 15/10/2015 20:46

I tried all the regimes. They variously made my skin dry, oily, red, flaky or fall off (thanks, Witch Hazel!). So I binned them all off. Same with make-up. Never looked back. Hardly ever get spots or anything.

Really, they're selling you stuff to paint on your face, then selling you other stuff to take off the paint with, and convincing you that you need both. Fair enough if you enjoy it, but I never have.

Focusfocus · 15/10/2015 20:49

The only thing I use on my face is warm water and pat dry after. Beautiful skin. unlike the last many years of such such and such on my skin. For my body too - warm water, gentle scrub cloth and plain unscented vegetable soap, followed by plain cold pressed oil.

I own nothing else. Use nothing else. No blemishes, just fine.

PacificMouse · 15/10/2015 20:51

EmGee how is your DH walking his face then? Does he use some cleanser and moisturiser etc?
Or water over his have is enough?

I've always found it interesting to see that women clearly need to use special products but somehow men don't (I know it's changing ...).

BertieBotts · 15/10/2015 20:52

I don't use anything either. But I do get spots so I think I probably should. I don't have any wrinkles, though!

Orangeanddemons · 15/10/2015 20:53

Me too. Stopped using water on my face age 12. Just cleanse with baby lotion!

I have fantastic skin, it's always commented on. People think I'm early 40s rather than early 50s.

WorldsBiggestGrotbag · 15/10/2015 20:55

If you just use water don't you have panda eyes? Water wouldn't get my eye make up off.

Focusfocus · 15/10/2015 20:57

By the way I don't use or own any makeup!

Passmethecrisps · 15/10/2015 20:58

I own all the shit but rarely use it as I am a lazy bugger. Generally I use whatever is at hand which might be a baby wipe, water and hands or the face cloth.

My skin isn't clear but I think that is much more to do with hormones and diet than cleaning

PastaLaFeasta · 15/10/2015 21:01

I used to use baby wipes too, but I read something that said it wasn't actually that good. I only wash a couple of times a week now and rarely ever did wash regularly - a foaming wash from boots and an exfoliating wash. If I'm good I'll use a cleanser at night or more rarely in the morning. Not so much the toner as I read that was bad too. Apparently allowing the skins natural oils to build over night is healthier and protects the skin, I top up with serums and moisturisers when I remember. The best thing for clear skin was going onto the combined pill.

StellaAlpina · 15/10/2015 21:02

Sounds like what I do, just wash my face with water when I have a shower. Alternatively I wash it with (shock!) handsoap when I'm washing my hands.

The rare times I wear makeup I take it off with a babywipe.

My skin's quite nice I think, no spots, no wrinkles (I'm too young) - if it gets a bit dry in winter I put on whatever moisteriser is lying around - usually DHs excema stuff.

EmGee · 15/10/2015 21:02

Pacific DH uses cleanser, eye cream and moisturiser (two kinds - a night one and a day one). He's much more into anti-aging than me! He has always used skin products so he is definitely not your archetypal 'male' as far as skincare is concerned.

specialsubject · 15/10/2015 21:09

no water? doesn't anyone do anything physical and so get sweaty? Does no-one ever get muddy or dirty?

you do need grease dissolvers to get makeup off, I appreciate water won't do that.

CakeNinja · 15/10/2015 21:10

I rinse mine under the shower with water and rub my face with my hands.
No products, I don't wear make up and when I was a bridesmaid, I had my makeup done by a lovely lady who asked what my routine was. When I told her it was water and hands, she complimented me and said I had beautiful healthy skin, and could pass for someone much younger than me, couldn't believe I had 3 children! Okay, not so stealthy, just full on boastful!
To be fair, the makeup she put on me was very light and natural and made me look a much glowier version of my normal self, if I could recreate the look myself I'd do it every day.
But I don't own a scrap of makeup bar Vaseline for my lips and a mascara in the bathroom cupboard that I won in a raffle and has never been opened!
Yanbu, keep the chemicals away from the faces people Grin

MrsItsNoworNotatAll · 15/10/2015 21:14

I only use water on my face and have done for as long as I remember. My skin is fine.

And I don't wear make up, never have.

FingerOFudge · 15/10/2015 21:17

I agree specialsubject - if I didn't give my face a good wash after I came back from a run, I would be sweaty/salty for the rest of the day. A bit of cold water is not going to get me properly clean. I do only use the Body Shop's Aloe foaming cleanser though. No wipes or lotions.

purplewoofer · 15/10/2015 21:35

I stick my face under the shower and rub with my hands. Might use a bit of soap if it's dirty or had sun cream and feels grubby. Never wear makeup

redredblue · 15/10/2015 22:06

Just use a cleanser before bed, actually whilst in bed, to get makeup off.
This is usually after a shower and there is always loads on makeup still on my face after the shower. (And black mascara streaks down my face)
I don't wash my face in the morning.

Therewasanoldladywho · 15/10/2015 22:15

I used to put on so many layers of makeup! Different foundations for different parts of my face, primer, concealer etc. Had expensive lotions and potions too. Always had oily, spotty skin.

Now in my 30s with an 8 month old. Never wear makeup any more and I wash with just water in the shower and moisturise every morning with almond oil. My skin has never been better!

MrsMook · 15/10/2015 22:25

I just splash with water, or when in the shower. Sometimes I use a basic moisturiser if I'm feeling dry, usually in the winter from dry central heating / cold winds (Boots cucumber cream or Simple). I only wear make up a few times a year for special occasions.

Today I've been asked about how am I managing to get younger looking by someone who saw more of me about 5 years ago, pre-children! Grin

goodasitgets · 15/10/2015 23:10

Full cleanse routine for me but I wear makeup every day and am frequently grubby from mucking out stables etc

littlefrenchonion · 16/10/2015 10:13

I'm always a bit baffled by faffy beauty routines. Maybe I'm just lazy or maybe I'm lucky to have clear skin anyway. I don't know.

I shower in the morning, the water hits my face, maybe a bit of shampoo dribbles down, and that's about it. If I still have a bit of makeup on from yesterday then I wipe it off with a tissue and a bit of makeup remover.

I hate moisturiser, it makes my skin feel like it's slathered in chemicals (which it probably is).
