To ask if anyone knows this about mobiles/premium rate numbers/scams

Need a bit of help please. If, on your mobile phone, a number appears in your dialled numbers history then you did dial that number right? It's nothing too sinister - my poor old nearly 80 years old Dad has been billed for a call to a raunchy 0844 number which he swears blind he never called - and I believe him because a/he's very upright and b/he's mortified and desperate that anyone at the mobile company might think he uses that kind of service!
I think he's misdialled a number somewhere along the line - he thinks he's been the victim of some kind of scam.
But the number does appear in his dialled calls history - I don't think anyone could scam that. His phone is not connected to the internet in any way.
It's not a 'smart' phone, just a plain old Nokia and the charge is only £4 (length of call unknown) and it's to a number registered to an outfit called altervista.org. who seem to run quite a few questionable services from that same number.
Can anyone help me put his mind at rest? Thank you Smile

He must have misdialled.
But enjoyed a good £4 worth before hanging up Wink

Grin Oyster - I'm having a wry smile at it all but his distress is difficult to handle! I'm sure it's a misdial - quite apart from anything else I know that the spending of £4 on something that didn't give him years of service would be anathema to him! He is of THAT generation!

altervista.org

Gawd, misleading URLs to make you think it's Search Engine no-one's used since Bill Clinton was president.
