Sharpening pencils

It seems that in our house it is impossible to sharpen pencils. You sharpen it a bit, the lead breaks, repeat until the pencil is too small to use. WHY!!!!
Seriously I'm starting to think it's a conspiracy.

I've never had a pencil that didn't do that.

I know the answer to this! Sad to say, it is crap pencils, where the lead breaks inside. Or good pencils where someone has used them as a pretend drumstick, causing them to break inside.

Sad but true. And very frustrating.

Have you tried a different pencil sharpener?

Stop buying cheap pencils, took me years to work out. Staedtler (the black and yellow ones) are much better.

Yes, we learned this the hard way at school. Staedtler are very much worth the extra money.

At home the problem is that we acquire so many pretty or fun ones (party bags, cheap stationary sets etc) but they are rubbish.

Yep to cheap pencils, yes to being used a drumsticks and also cheap/old pencil sharpeners.

I do a lot of art work, and sadly sometimes expensive pencils break too. I do have quite a good pencil sharpener ( faber castel) from Amazon. For some reason black always breaks, but that may be because I use it a lot too.

I was hoping this was a thread about how much you LOVE sharpening pencils!

Because I do - I absolutely love sharpening - I wish there was a way to make a living from it.

Can I send mine to you? And eyeliner pencils. Just the worst!
