So. They are perfectly nice. We aren't friends, particularly, but there are no issues. But EVERY SINGLE TIME I go in the garden, they want a chat. Even if I'm sitting on my secluded patio, having a cuppa, they call out. It feels intrusive. How should I handle this without being rude??

Earphones.

Say, love to talk but have to read for work: byee?

Agree - have visible earphones/headphones even if you are not listening to anything.

I would be honest and say ' I would love to chat but I am just about to meditate!' They will either ask to join in or run for the hills.....

Grow something large and bushy between you.
