To march ds to the police station as he's stolen a bag

Ds13 has stolen a 5p bag from the local tesco, I checked the receipt and he hadnt paid for it and it is one of the new thicker ones. He has admitted that he didn't pay for it when using the self service till. Would the police cooperate with giving him a stern telling off if we pop down there?

I'm amused that the OP thinks that bothering Tesco would be too much as they are 'always so busy' and wouldn't want to spend time making an example of the thief, but believes that the police have the time and resources to deal with this and explain pretty much exactly what the OP presumably already has, that theft, regardless of value is wrong.

SolidGoldBrass · 11/10/2015 22:09

Are you sure he 'stole' it rather than simply forgetting to pay for it? You sound controlling and spiteful anyway if you are going through the receipt so closely and then shitting your pants over 5p.
Besides, when it comes to Tesco, a little moderate thieving could be seen as retributive justice given their long history of staff exploitation, land-grabbing and tax dodging.,
So get the fuck over yourself.

iamanintrovert · 11/10/2015 22:09

It would be a laugh to hear about a trip to the police station for this crime though :)

Wow. Just wow. Neither wonder the polis canny catch burglars and the like. They're all too busy wi mumsnetters who's kids stole a fuckin carrier bag Blush

scatterthenuns · 11/10/2015 22:25

It's definitely not sad that the police won't parent your child.

Its fucking brilliant. Teach him 'lessons' yourself, if you so desperately think he needs to learn them.

I take it you're from Scotland, Spoke. I love the Scottish accent. Grin

goawayalready · 11/10/2015 22:29

obviously a fake thread tescos don't even have the bags at the checkouts anymore not even self scan you have to ASK for them and they hover around making sure you add it on the end

seriously get a life start a sex thread at least those are slightly interesting Hmm

sproketmx · 11/10/2015 22:30

Aye. Sure am. That was a bit of a quote tbh. I'm sitting with my sil and 3 of our pals reading some of aibu together (because let's face it some of them are Hmm) and one of the girls came out with that.

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 11/10/2015 22:35

Tell your pal Ilive, said "Great Quote".

My ds often plays in my bedroom even though he's been told not to, would the police cooperate and give him a stern telling off for trespassing if I march him there?

Garrick · 11/10/2015 22:36

Since you asked - I was massively hauled over the coals when I stole a lipstick from Boots (or it might have been an eyeshadow) also aged 13. I had to go back to the shop, tell them I'd taken it and pay for it. Parents checked the receipt. The nice lady in Boots chose to assume I'd forgotten to pay for it; I knew I'd nicked it, though, and had been shamed.

My dad was the police where we lived, and a vindictive bastard at that. Even he didn't think it worth a formal report!

Looks like another sleepless night for me. This time worrying about unpaid for plastc tescos bags. Grin

BoffinMum · 11/10/2015 22:42

Fucks sake. It's a carrier bag. Slap on the wrists and a forced contribution to a charity box out of pocket money should do it.

YouBastardSockBalls · 11/10/2015 22:52

Stick an unwrapped croissant in it and it'll be allowed, voila.

ThisOldFool · 11/10/2015 23:01

I was tempted to ignore this but I do admire your deep concern to bring your DS up to be a responsible citizen. I don't agree with the "Oh, for heavens sake" brigade. But going to the police is a bit over the top. Would have worked, did work! when I was a kid 70 years ago. In those days the police were sensible and would give you a good clout if (when) they caught you scrumping, but that was the end of it. Happy days!
I think that making him give something to charity, or finding him an unpaid job in a charity shop for a couple of Saturday's, might just help him to see the need to be careful. I suspect there was no intent to steal the bag from Tesco, just carelessness or unawareness. I know you love your son, but don't be too hard on him. Make a fuss, chase him about a bit and make like a bit uncomfortable and then give him a hug AND FORGET IT!!!!! Really forget it!

Bakeoffcake · 11/10/2015 23:23

Yes, take him to the police IMMEDIATELY. He needs a short, sharp, shock or before you know it he'll be planning a bank heist and drug smuggling before he's 14.

DO NOT LET THIS CRIMINAL CHILD OUT OF YOUR SIGHT!!!

jorahmormont · 12/10/2015 00:06

5p bags are a gateway drug. Next stop, snorting meth off a pornstar's arsecheeks. Sorry OP there's no hope for him now.
