Swimming lesson today

Please tell me if I am over reacting to this At our swimming lesson today! Dd5 and ds7 are in the same swimming lesson. The lesson was fine as usual but at the end they had a race -boys against girls. Ds raced against a girl and she was obviously going to beat him so the teacher said very loudly 'You're not going to let a girl beat you are you ds?!' It pissed me off because he now doesn't want to go swimming next week and also because DD heard. Why is it so bad to be beaten by a girl?. Wibu to have a moan to the teacher? Thanks

I don't think yabu at all. Have a moan - a bloody big moan. That's a disgusting, vile, sexist comment from a teacher.

Chocolateteabag · 10/10/2015 21:40

Definitely complain and if you don't get a satisfactory apology, I would be complaining higher up too.
That comment is sexist and demoralising both for your DS and for the girls in the class too

thehen · 10/10/2015 21:47

Thank you. I found it pretty demoralising as well. How can women in sport be putting that message across?

YANBU. Stupid bloody comment.

Thebookswereherfriends · 10/10/2015 21:50

It was a woman teacher!?

AuditAngel · 10/10/2015 21:51

I'm waiting for DD1 to get moved up, into DS's level. He knows this and has pulled his finger out, do to peak.

Complain, complain, complain

ArabellaRockerfella · 10/10/2015 22:08

Blatant sexism should be questioned every time. It is so ingrained that people are blind to it. Have you seen the "Run like a girl" video? Google it, it will make you cry and realise how wrong this swimming teacher was.

ShebaShimmyShake · 10/10/2015 22:17

Didn't a female Chinese swimmer beat all the men at the last Olympics? Teacher is a nob. Yes you should complain. Girls are discouraged and demeaned in enough fields as it is.

Notcontent · 10/10/2015 23:51

I think we all need to challenge this kind of stuff - it's pretty rife unfortunately.

AgentZigzag · 11/10/2015 00:02

I wondered that too Thebooks (my friends are pens Grin (League of Gents))

A hundred quid it was a bloke, I don't think women say shit like that (do they?).

Yeah, total twat OP, hardly the best way of trying to foster a bit of competition between them.

thehen · 11/10/2015 07:36

Yes the teacher is a woman! I will be having words next week

This really passes me off. Me and dd kick box. When dd was sparing a boy, the boys dad had a go at him for letting 'a girl beat him'! Thankfully dad was swiftly put in his place by several orders members.

My mum then moaned because I got a bruise when sparing a man. Apparently I shouldn't be allowed to spar a man, it's just not right. I was enraged at both of them.

It's not good for any kids to hear that shit! Not the boys who have it said to them, or the girls that it's about. It's sends the message that girls are beneath boys and shouldn't be capable of winning or being good at anything, if a man is present.
