Hello,

I've had this on and off for about 18months (see previous thread) but now I'm sick of it! 2 rounds of metronizale haven't worked. The Balance Activ pessaries work but then it comes back.

I did a douche last night of hydrogen peroxide and then inserted the following tablets: folic acid, vitamin c and acidophilus. I am also taking these orally.

My main question is whether it is right to try to kill the bad bacteria (with the hydrogen perioxide & acid) at the same time as trying to replenish the good (with acidophilus) or should I do acid for a week THEN acidophilus?

I am drinking apple cider vinegar and have cleaned my diet right up.

Any advice would be really appreciated.
Thanks in advance

FYI: I have been tested for STIs & thrush and am clear.

Do you wipe front to back?

Morning Fanjo Sisters!
My only symptoms are soaked pants (thin clear watery discharge) and a horse/fish smell.
No I've not been in hospital or had any operations. Doubt it's trich as nothing green plus started six months after last sex (which was protected sex).
I don't use any Sanpro at all - periods are barely noticeable.
Well off to sniff my knickers now.
I have a gp appt in a couple of weeks anyway so will mention it then if homemade Dr Google vaginal cocktail hasn't worked!!

I enjoyed the instruction to masturbate thanks. Got a well stocked bedside cabinet luckily!

Thanks also for the reminder not to do the acidophilus at same time as antibiotics.

Hi ridingcrop. I mentioned front to back because I'm kinda convinced this is why I get recurrent bv, pretty much all my life. I was never told to wipe front to back when I was young, so just never have. I dunno, could be something else but I really think it's this.

Hope you get some relief soon xx

agog at bleach up your fanny, and not knowing to wipe front to back.

also, you're going to need to wash every toy in your bedside cabinet with antibac. Ann Summers sell toy cleaner. after each use, wash and let the toy dry.

Not to fart when clothed?! Grin I can just imagine pulling my trousers down walking along the street/at work/in the supermarket etc etc....!

RidingCrop

Is there any possibility that the wetness is caused by urine rather than BV?

Report
LeftMyRidingCropInTheMortuary · 10/10/2015 14:27

Thank u ladies - I clean my toys with balance activ wipes after every use.

I don't think it's urine because I can stick a finger in the vagina and it comes out wet and smelly. I've had no kids and am only 32 so low risk for urine incontinence. I am v overweight tho. And I think getting sweaty down there makes it worse.

Oh God, I think stopping using the ahem, appliances might be a good move right now. You could easily reinfect yourself.

The idea of anything going up there that isn't supposed to fills me with the fear. Keep it simple, don't put anything in your foof, let it sort itself out unless you are told by a quaified person to stick something in it.

OK. Def ask the GP then. If your GP is a bit crap try your local sexual health clinic - they may have more experience.

You say you are very overweight - if you do get very hot and sweaty down there make sure you keep your vulva/anus scrupulously clean (externally!). Also maybe sleep bottom half naked with legs.apart while still awake to give the area lots of air and a chance.to dry out a bit.

I had recurrent BV infections which were treated with metronidazole tablets but kept coming back.

In the end I kept a diary of attacks and where I was in my menstrual cycle. For me the pattern was that every time I had a period, I would get an attack of BV afterwards.

I did some research and found that there is a vaginal gel available on prescription which contains metronidazole. I convinced my doctor to let me try it in a preventative way- I.e I would use it for 3 days as soon as my period finished to avert an infection. I did it for about 6 months and my attacks have permanently cleared up. I also switched to chemical free tampons which seemed to help too (I know it seems a bit woo but I was so desperate for a solution I was willing to try anything!)

You have my sympathy op, it's a painful and embarrassing condition and there still seems to be a lot of misinformation out there about it (every time I went to my GP they were determined it was some sort of STI and I needed swabs, this is despite the fact I was single and not having sex at the time, every time they swabbed me, it came back with BV only but I felt like they didn't believe me when I said I wasn't sleeping around!)

I do try to air my foof when home alone :-)

Benefits of being single i guess! Cat doesn't seem to mind.

Ok, well, clitorial bullet only.

Just though I'd point out that there are two strengths of peroxide- the strong one for bleaching hair, and the nice mild antiseptic one for first aid. It's a v good antiseptic due to its fizzing action.

Thanks InSpace! I actually put up the one for cleaning contact lenses from tesco.

are you washing your pants hot enough?
if you wash at 40 and below that dosn't kill bacteria and can re-infect you.

and whilst speaking about laundry: do you use a good long programme with at least 3 rinses?

Report
LeftMyRidingCropInTheMortuary · 10/10/2015 20:12

Interesting, Tarzan. I usually wash them at 40. I might bung them in at 60. Just about to do some laundry actually. Like Sheldon on Big Bang Theory - Saturday night at 8.15.

Thanks all. For answering the questions you can't ask even your best friends!

Agree with previous posters regarding unprotected sex, I have BV intermittently and usually after unprotected sex with an uncircumcised man.

And it is worth getting Trichomonas ruled out properly, it can sometimes be difficult to detect on routine tests and there is thought now that some recurrent BV might actually be TV. Although your metronidazole should have helped treat potential TV, there is the possibility of re-infection from partners if it was TV.

What would happen if you did nothing for a month to see if would right itself?

Report
LeftMyRidingCropInTheMortuary · 10/10/2015 21:06

Thanks, DrFox.
I haven't had any sex since 2 rounds of metrozi-whatsit so I wouldn't have (re)contracred trich
I have mainly been leaving it alone to see if it sorts itself but just this last week I got fed up! So no, leaving it alone doesn't work...

Off to sniff my knickers again as I've just been out for a long walk.

But yeah, I think it might be the clap clinic if it still persists.

You have my sympathies! I had two rounds of antibiotics and those things for bv you put in yourself.
I think you can get a box of a few for a couple of quid if it's cheaper from savers or superdrug.

LeftMyRidingCropInTheMortuary · 12/10/2015 20:21

Thanks. My homemade vaginal cocktail has not had the desired effect. Might just have to go back to the pessaries every night. At least until I see the GP in a couple of weeks.

I think people are overreacting about the hydrogen peroxide - its commonly used as a mouthwash, you can buy hydrogen peroxide mouthwashes on the shop floor. Fanjo and mouth are similar in terms of ph and skin type etc.

Don't know anything about this condition but hope you get it sorted!
