Hello,

I've had this on and off for about 18months (see previous thread) but now I'm sick of it! 2 rounds of metronizale haven't worked. The Balance Activ pessaries work but then it comes back.

I did a douche last night of hydrogen peroxide and then inserted the following tablets: folic acid, vitamin c and acidophilus. I am also taking these orally.

My main question is whether it is right to try to kill the bad bacteria (with the hydrogen perioxide & acid) at the same time as trying to replenish the good (with acidophilus) or should I do acid for a week THEN acidophilus?

I am drinking apple cider vinegar and have cleaned my diet right up.

Any advice would be really appreciated.
Thanks in advance

FYI: I have been tested for STIs & thrush and am clear.

i kept getting this, turns out my vagina doesn't like me using bath bombs, bath salts or anything else scented or synthetic in my bath water. i'm ok with Epsom salts in the bath and that's it. I don't add normal sopa to my bath water either as i dare not risk another attack. I never used to be 'allergic' to bath stuff so no idea why it happened.

i've also heard that it's possible to be 'allergic' to some men's sperm, whether due to their diet or other factors their sperm is very acidic.

DontMindMe1 · 09/10/2015 21:50

if you want to try home remedies then these are probably better than the peroxide. i used the yogurt and it did help.

Are you having any unprotected sex? Every time I slept with a previous partner I got BV. It turns out some guys semen makes that happen!

EarSlaps · 09/10/2015 21:58

You poor thing, no wonder you sound desperate!

No experience of BV but I do have a vulval skin condition so I have to be very careful how I treat down there.

No soap, shower gel or bubble bath ever! It's hard not to use them as you want to feel clean but they make it worse. I clean with Epaderm cream and warm water. In the day I sometimes rinse after a wee with a jug of tepid water and pat dry, very gently. Just focus on cleaning the outside and the inside will get a chance to clean itself.

If I do have a bath (not very often), I use nothing but Epsom salts or a very teeny splash of apple cider vinegar. If you want to use a probiotic take one orally.

backtowork2015 · 09/10/2015 21:58

Just water or johnsons first wash down there. I know you just want to feel clean and smell fresh but trust me this is the way to go....not acid!

MsJamieFraser · 09/10/2015 22:02

No what you need to do is stop with all the stuffing things up ones fanjo, it will get worse before it gets better (think 2/3 days, just bath with water, when washing hair use shower/jug, keep all soapy things away... you need to get bacteria, not get rid of it.

grumpysquash · 09/10/2015 22:17

See your GP and get some antibiotic cream to insert multiple times per day for about a week, to clear any infection.
There is a reasonable chance you will end up with thrush (unfortunately) but that can be treated with an over the counter pessary and oral tablet.
After that, eat the live yoghurt etc and work on maintaining balance.

Good luck! But you will need antibiotics to get rid of it, and cream is probably better than oral.

How long have you had it?

LeftMyRidingCropInTheMortuary · 09/10/2015 22:18

No I haven't had sex for two years! And I don't like baths anyway!
Thanks for the support!

grumpysquash · 09/10/2015 22:18

Also...regarding unprotected sex. It's unlikely to be the semen, which is sterile, much more likely to be bacteria under the foreskin. Either way, using a condom would help.

LeftMyRidingCropInTheMortuary · 09/10/2015 22:20

I first noticed it about 18months ago but took me ages to realise it wasn't just a sweaty banjo!

grumpysquash · 09/10/2015 22:20

Oops, X post about the sex!

NumbBlaseCold · 09/10/2015 22:25

I used yogurt, that helped.

Inserted with a tampon.

Can you ask your GP for more tests?

The swabs should indicate the bacteria, sounds like you may need pessaries possibly rather than oral antibiotics?

LeftMyRidingCropInTheMortuary · 09/10/2015 22:26

Lol! I dare any man to stick his dick in the acidic vagina from hell!

HodgePodge23 · 09/10/2015 22:28

Haha I had sex with someone while I had BV and had to tell them "I don't normally smell like that" bloody embarrassing.

Balance Activ does work. Use the pressurise not the gel. It works better than antibiotics for many women. You need to use it every night for about a couple of weeks, then every other/two nights for another couple of weeks. Then again at the end of your period if you get any symptoms for one or two nights. I don't know if your GP will prescribe? If you search around you can buy it cheaper.

Use condoms for sex (I know you're not having any at the moment) and do have sex/masterbate because it does help flush things out without worrying about irritation.

FYI you're not acidic at the moment, you're probably very alkaline. Or at least you were before the peroxide!

coconutpie · 09/10/2015 23:32

I'm still agog that you stuffed a load of hydrogen peroxide up your vag. Bloody hell.

21Oreos · 10/10/2015 05:20

Sorry to hear about this; it must be very hard. Have you been tested for Tric, or just BV?

You can get lactic acid pouches which will kill the BV, which should hopefully stop you getting thrush (which is what the antibiotics does). It will also restore your correct acidity level.
You also need to make sure you aren't using anything too perfumed, as to affect your pH balance.

Senpai · 10/10/2015 05:35

Everyone beat me to the Shock at what you're currently doing.

So I will only say this: You need the good bacteria to thrive in there, and by killing off the bad ones you're dragging out your problem. The vagina and uterus is a self cleaning organ, it doesn't need outside help in that regard. You do need to talk to the doctor and follow their instructions.

JamNan · 10/10/2015 07:16

Sorry not read whole thread. You have my sympathy. I suffered similar symptoms for 11 months with various treatments that didn't work very well. My lovely new doctor took swabs and it turned out I had an MRSA infection (contracted in a hospital by poor hand hygiene). Have you been in hospital for any procedure in the last 2 years? Has MRSA been ruled out?

Putting all those chemicals (including spermicides and condoms) in your vagina is going to upset the natural balance even more. Also don't use bio live yogurt or take acidophilus at the same time as a course of antibiotics as they cancel each other out. Take them after the course has finished to try and help prevent thrush.

Ask for a referral to a gynecologist - you've suffered long enough.

Anastasie · 10/10/2015 07:33

Sorry to hijack but where do you get the unfragranced sanpro from?

I find I get thrush when I use the scented ones, not that I realised they were scented as they don't really put that on the packaging.

It's horrible and I would love to know where to buy the unfragranced sort if anyone can recommend.

Thank you, and OP, I am sending you massive sympathy and I am sorry not to be able to suggest anything. Flowers

goodasitgets · 10/10/2015 07:38

Kotex, always silk and lillets pads are unscented

BrideOfWankenstein · 10/10/2015 07:48

Are 100% sure it's BV? Can it be Tric? I had it just recently and it did indeed smell of something dead. BV should be smelling of fish.
It should be easy to tell them apart by checking the colour of discharge. With Tric it's yellow green.
Anyway, stop putting random chemicals inside you and ask for more swabs and maybe get yourself referred to gynaecologist?

Anastasie · 10/10/2015 07:52

Thank you very much

MovingOnUpMovingOnOut · 10/10/2015 09:13

Yes I forgot to mention spermicide is bad but condoms are fine. Just get ones with no or minimal spermicide. They're really so much better than semen which can trigger more reaction.
