To be unable to listen to this song without crying?

It is Jamie Lawson's "I wasn't expecting that".

I really like it but now that I know the ending I can't listen to the rest of it without at least a wobbly lip and quite often actual tears (disclaimer - I have only heard it on the radio maybe 6 times, I'm not stalking the song if that's a thing).

However I'm not sure if my radar is off - I'm usually pretty stoic but my mum had a health scare recently and I've been a lot more emotional than usual so I don't know if the song is really as touching as I find it?

What do you hard-headed MNers think?

Well I'm crying but I'm also an emotional wreck atm so not sure if it's the song or not!

MakeItRain · 09/10/2015 00:00

Well I'd never heard of it but just watched/ listened on YouTube and it made me cry Sad

SurvivalOfTheUnfittest · 09/10/2015 00:03

I think it is a beautiful song, but since DH died two years ago, anything like that makes me cry these days, even though I am in a pretty good place. I am not looking forward to the Christmas adverts!

ColdTeaAgain · 09/10/2015 00:07

Yep I cried. I lost my mum to cancer so it just made me think of my poor dad losing her :(

wowfudge · 09/10/2015 00:07

It's a very touching song OP - weep away. Have a Brew and take a bit of time out.

IWasHereBeforeTheHack · 09/10/2015 00:13

Yes. It made me cry, and I have a heart of stone!

Moreshabbythanchic · 09/10/2015 00:14

I knew it was going to be that song when I read your title, so sad, makes me cry too. It reminds me a bit of the song by Bobby Goldsborough called Honey, its ages old and still brings a tear to my eye.

MarkRuffaloCrumble · 09/10/2015 00:19

Have you seen the video for it too?!

A friend posted a link on FB and I foolishly watched it thinking "aw, it's just like me and DP" then 'BAM'!

I wasn't expecting that.

It's got that sound about it anyway - anything with twangy guitar and country sounding lyrics is automatically a contender for a blub-fest.

Lynnm63 · 09/10/2015 00:29

I made the mistake of watching the video on YouTube. Was just thinking it sounded like me and DH what with 3 kids, im smiling to myself then boom! the ending and now im sitting here crying like a baby.

Discopanda · 09/10/2015 00:33

Bugger me, hadn't heard of that song so I just YouTubed it. I feel like I've been punched in the stomach in the most beautiful way.

sproketmx · 09/10/2015 00:33

Ed sheeran small bump. Fuck me every time I hear it I can't function. You're not alone op

rockabillyruby82 · 09/10/2015 00:53

I hate you all!! Now in tears

Redglitter · 09/10/2015 02:04

It has that effect on my mum. I hadn't heard it til she mentioned it but she cries every time it's on

Tootsiepops · 09/10/2015 03:49

I haven't heard it, but now I'm worried that it's going to catch me off-guard somewhere and I'm going to end up a mess! Sad

daisychain01 · 09/10/2015 05:37

Snivelling wreck

tallulahturtle · 09/10/2015 05:50

You should see me with the LLoyds bank advert. Thats horsey peoples kryptonite.

onecurrantbun1 · 09/10/2015 07:02

I knew which song you meant before I opened the thread! It makes me cry too and I love the song. I was blaming pregnancy hormones bull embrace it now Smile

The80sweregreat · 09/10/2015 07:09

its very sad. I hadn't listened properly to the lyrics until the other day when parking up in ASDA - I sat and just cried for a few minutes and then compose myself a bit. There haven't been many songs that have affected me as much lately - usually I cant understand a word they do 'sing' ( getting old)

weechops · 09/10/2015 07:15

I liked the song, then saw him live the other night when he supported one direction. The video played behind him, first time I've seen it, oh my god! That was it, I was crying in the bloody sse hydro! He is fab live though.

Inarightpickleandchutney · 09/10/2015 07:17

I'm like this with Adele 'someone like you' sometimes if I need a cry and can't get it out I listen to this to tip the scales!

EponasWildDaughter · 09/10/2015 07:18

I'm not googling it. I cry at the drop of a bloody hat!

(yy to the Lloyds bank ad)

Oysterbabe · 09/10/2015 07:19

I've added it to my commute playlist. If I cry I blame you lot. Seems likely considering I'm pregnant and yesterday I cried because we ran out of bread.

AlistairSim · 09/10/2015 07:20

Thanks, OP.
Those blasted onion ninja's have been at it again.

stopfaffing · 09/10/2015 07:47

Aw bugger. It got me too. It's coming up to the first anniversary of dad's death so I'm feeling vulnerable anyway... Sad

Now I'm supposed to put make-up on a snotty, teat-stained face Grin.

AGreatBigWorld · 09/10/2015 07:48

I heard this as i was dog walking recently and it stopped me in my tracks. He was on BBC Breakfast yesterday with Ed Sheeran. I walked into the house of the old man i help and he tried to talk to me and i was shhhhing him so i could listen.
I tweeted JL and said how much i loved the song and he retweeted me!!
