To short DP £50

He bet me that I couldn't compete a Rubik's cube I was messing around with. One week, £50.

I clearly could have completed it had DD not been ill all week and I could get past stage 3 of the tutorial.

So I'm thinking spend a tenner buying a new (completed) cube, present it to smug DP tomorrow and I'm still £40 up.

YABU. You should buy it from Argos, claim your winnings, then return it to Argos and you'll be £50 up Wink

WhyCantIuseTheNameIWant · 07/10/2015 09:51

Go for it!

Or check "solve the cube.com"

Their tutorial is really well written.

Or if you are in the north west, I will show you/finish it for you.

BatTeethKeith · 07/10/2015 09:52

Take it apart and put it back together and save yourself the tenner.

BarbarianMum · 07/10/2015 09:58

^^This

FattyNinjaOwl · 07/10/2015 10:02

Yep, take it apart. (As long as its a proper Rubik's cube and not a cheap one, like my mum decided to try and take apart!)

Avonandice · 07/10/2015 10:29

If its a proper rubiks cube do what i did at age 7, my dad joking said he'd give me £5 if i could solve it. I went upstairs peeled off the stickers and rearranged them.

He paid up.
My mum twigged and doubled it as id thought outside the problem.

bobbywash · 07/10/2015 10:35

You are being Totally U, it's a lie and a deception, if you didn't do it pay up, if you finish it properly claim the reward.

If he did the same to you, you should be livid at the lie, what's the difference?

TommyandGina · 07/10/2015 10:40

Are you near me? Pop round and I'll do it for you, it's a great skill my grandpa taught me.

Topaz25 · 07/10/2015 10:54

This is light hearted right? Surely he wouldn't hold you to it and charge you, given that your DD was ill.

Pantone363 · 07/10/2015 11:04

No stickers on the new ones. I'd take it apart but would end up with it being in 50 places on the table.

I might ask for an extension to the deadline

Just went on "solve the cube.com"
It's only taken two hours..... but I've actually done it! Can't wait until DH gets in from work tonight, he's been agonising over it for days....

MinecraftWonder · 07/10/2015 13:14

Ha...this reminds me of a couple of Christmas's ago when my mum gave a rubiks cube to ds1, who was not quite three at the time.

He was/is very mathematically minded and at age 2 loved simple puzzle-type board games, so she bought it as a bit of a 'you can grow into in and learn' present.

We mixed it up really well and as ds1 was busy, it got handed around a few adults who were there who all had a go and failed.

We gave it to ds1 later on, who was fascinated and disappeared into the living room (alone) with it. 5 minutes later he casually appeared and handed it back, fully completed!

I swear you could have heard a pin drop and everyone there was Shock with dh and I clearly thinking we had the next Einstein on our hands.

However, he's never managed to do it since (now aged 7) and is very bright but not gifted. I think it was clearly a fluke and by some weird chance he just managed to twist the right ways. It was cool at the time though, seeing a two year old 'beat' it when so many adults couldn't!

ShelaghTurner · 07/10/2015 15:06

God, the many many times I took the damn thing apart. Makes me feel young again. Sigh.

BatTeethKeith · 07/10/2015 15:50

I took mine apart it so many times became all loose and rattley.

Marisaurus · 07/10/2015 15:53

Biffa44 are you Pantone363?

If not, Pantone do what Biffa did? That site is fab.

Biffa44 · 07/10/2015 16:02

No I'm not Pantone, and yes, that site is very fab. If I can work it out following that, anyone can. I did get a bit stuck on the last stage and had to re-do the blummin thing three times, but that was my fault for not reading the instructions properly in the first place.

WhyCantIuseTheNameIWant · 07/10/2015 16:16

Come on Pantone.

Have you solved it?

Pantone363 · 07/10/2015 16:40

It's easier if you turn it the other way up with the yellow side at the top (white at the bottom). Then you move the middle pieces down to the right or left to make up the second layer. It does work, you just need to get your head round the different stages.
It is very cool at the last turn when everything literally clicks into place....
