to think I can make my voice louder/clearer

I have always had a fairly quiet voice - quietly spoken family; perhaps lacking in confidence and not been used to talking that much especially in group situations.

Anyway my life has progressed and I now find myself in situations where I need to be heard - general talking to people and sometimes at work giving instructions to small groups of colleagues. Problem is I can see people straining to hear me but don't know how to make my voice louder/clearer without it going high pitched and screechy. This is affecting my confidence and I feel people respect me less because of the weakness of my voice.

AIBU to think I can do something about this? If so, what?

Could you arrange a consultation with a private speech therapist? I'm sure they'd be able to teach you some techniques.

I agree, speech therapy would be a great place to start. it sounds to me like you need to sort your breathing out as it is that which supports vocal production. Long term, joining a choir, or having some singing lessons would help with this.

Speech therapy or a drama teacher.

Joining a choir would be excellent practice.
