just seen this on another thread, so I'll start

Jeremy Hunt, great grandson of Walter Baldwyn Yates, and 4th great grandson of John Scott, 1st Earl of Eldon, 29th great grandson of King Henry I, 4th cousin once removed of Elizabeth II, and 5th cousin once removed of Sir Oswald Mosley

please add as appropriate,eg. Cameron, Osborne, May etc.

(I'm really interested in their backgrounds, I didn't know Hunt had such lofty connections, just wondering about the rest of them.)

Gove, adopted. Parents Scottish, father ran a fish business that went bust at one point. Sent him somehow to local ? Private school.

Liz Truss, v normal parents, pretty left of centre, public sector afair.

P McLoughlin, probably a mining family as he was a miner.

And...?

CinderellaRockefeller · 06/10/2015 23:08

I think they worked out genetic mixing means that we're all descended from Edward iii one way or the other. Therefore all descended from Henry I. Once you're going back 29 generations it is an entirely meaningless genetic and weakens any logical argument.

NegativeIron · 06/10/2015 23:10

Presumably not if you are scots..

CinderellaRockefeller · 06/10/2015 23:20

Actually the whole cabinet is descended from Charlemagne. Posh bastards.

Not sure about scots, but if the entirety of Europe descends from Charlemagne who was about 30 generations back then I'd hazard a guess that across the whole of the British Isles then common ancestory at about 20 generations would be pretty likely. Which is about where Edward iii sits. You could equally base it from the Scottish royal family too, same principle.

BetLynchsBeehive · 06/10/2015 23:31

We are not all descended from Ed III thank you very much. Grin

All my ancestors were peasants and or Celts, probably not even many Normans/Gascons amongst them.

I think in fact you will find the conservatives work very hard to get a greater mix of MPs

sproketmx · 07/10/2015 03:00

I don't know. If I'm honest I would say the majority il of mumsnet doesn't represent average Joe in real life where I'm from.
