Ocado.

I chose a 99p delivery time. It then said it was 99p as long as I spent over £75. And 1.99 if I spent over £40.

Then it said they are charging 5p per carrier bag. I don't have a problem with this except

1 - they put in about 3 items per carrier, so they end up using about 12 carriers when I would use 3.

2 - the delivery man asked on the way out the door if I had any bags for him to recycle. so they charge 5p but want them back for free.

I know I am being unreasonable expecting bargain basement products from ocado. But AIBU about the bags and the initially misleading delivery charges?

Jesus is the driver! Isn't he?? Tell me it's true! Grin

Thanks for the tips. I think I'll have to be a bag saver. I'm too disorganised to be doing something t Amy other way.

AbsintheMakesTheHeart · 06/10/2015 12:03

londonista that's good to know - thanks. I shall be way ahead of the game and count out all my Sainsburys bags before my first Ocado delivery arrives, and avoid looking like a new girl amateur.

Londonista123 · 06/10/2015 12:03

I think my driver is Gary Grin

BumWad - I think deliveries are free for the first month (?) (possibly with a voicuher, bit hazy), then if you pay for an annual SmartPass all deliveries are free except (annoyingly) Christmas run-up.

SmartPass makes sense if you're committed to Ocado - CBA to Google but I think it's something like £70 for the year, and gives you access to discounts on products including household regulars.

SistersOfPercy · 06/10/2015 12:08

I have a weekday smartpass and a delivery every week. Worth it for my Christmas reserve shop if nothing else. Grin

I spend much less at Ocado than I do in Tesco, like Londonista I don't get swayed by offers and meal plan so I buy what I need rather than what I fancy at the time. Generally I feed 3 adults and the dog for between £50 - £70 a week.

OooooohMissDiane · 06/10/2015 12:10

Tattydevine - online food shopping is included. Stores with over 250 employees must charge for each bag used or an average cost. This is why almost everyone now offers bagless option.

middlings · 06/10/2015 12:21

I decided to use SmartPass for the year and I like it. I do tend to take advantage of offers though which means I don't spend much less than I do at the supermarket.

I also buy most of my fruit and veg locally as I like to be able to see it. I've been let down by Ocado meat in particular too many times.

Excited101 · 06/10/2015 12:24

They colour code bag depending on what the items are so frozen comes in one coloured handle bag, fridge in another, store cupboard etc he sees why sometimes you only get a couple of things in the bag. I love them!

Jeffreythegiraffe · 06/10/2015 12:28

Do Ocado not offer bagless delivery then? Having bags for online delivery is pointless.

Thatpoorpig · 06/10/2015 12:32

To the be person who asked when the bag refund is applied, for me I took delivery on Sunday and returned about 20 bags then and this money has come off what I have been charged for my Sunday shopping (money taken out on Monday). Hth

Londonista123 · 06/10/2015 12:34

Jeffrey nope, no bagless delivery. I've just read their FAQs instead of working and they say:

We can't eliminate bags from our deliveries just yet. Packing them in separate bags for your fridge, cupboard and freezer is a really important part of making sure your groceries arrive in tip-top condition.

Thatpoorpig · 06/10/2015 12:40

I imagine the difficulty in doing bag less will be to do with the fact that they are basically warehouses rather than stores, and to do with the way they (the warehouses) are laid out and picking and packing takes place. I assume as its don't done within a store environment it's a different process (just guessing)

middlings · 06/10/2015 14:01

Another one who has experienced a bag refund quickly!

Shop was dropped at 7.15am this morning, received an email 12:53 informing me of my 75p refund.

I think that's quite good!

icanteven · 06/10/2015 14:07

I love love love Ocado. I pay the monthly delivery fee, btw. It's, oh, I don't know, 9.99 a month or sim. and I can have unlimited free deliveries, no time restrictions, so long as I order £40+. It's great value for me.

IguanaTail · 06/10/2015 14:18

I knew Id come to the right place to ask! Thanks everyone.

If we are talking about Ocado, that's if they arrive at all.

Londonista123 · 06/10/2015 15:24

Silver - what happened to your deliveries??

I'm a bit in love with ocado. My only "problem" with them have been occasional attempts to deliver ahead of schedule which, given that I get a delivery on Sat at 9am, isn't ideal. They tend to find me in PJs.

GingerFoxInAT0phat · 07/10/2015 08:57

When do ocado take the money out of your account? I got my delivery yesterday and they still haven't taken it?

Starting to panic as I have paid a full balance of a bill instead of my monthly payment so now don't have enough money in bank for the shopping?!

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 07/10/2015 14:00

Jesus in the cabbage van was the subject of a whole lovely thread on here a while ago. It might have been in chat so might not exist any more.

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 07/10/2015 14:01

Oops bold fail

WhyCantIuseTheNameIWant · 07/10/2015 14:05

Can't comment on the delivery prices, but an ocado van has just tried to kill us! Pulled right out in front of me on a main road. With a large lorry pretty close behind me.

So I followed him through the next village he turned off into.
Had a look at the driver and noted his number.

He has no idea what a speed limit is for.

And if he can't see my "family size" mondo/vectra/accord/passat size car, then I don't think he should be driving?
