AIBU to think that as I don't own a cat I shouldn't have to clear up cat sh*t from my garden every other day??

I choose not to own a cat, and yet once again I find myself this morning in my front garden shovelling up big smelly piles of cat poo. If it was my own pet I wouldn't mind, but I'm really getting the hump with being up to my elbows in sh*t because someone else's pet thinks my garden is a toilet. I love animals -usually - but it's so gross, so stinky and really unhygenic. It was cat diarrhea on my rock plants at the weekend just as we were expecting visitors, just caught the little sod squatting on my plants despite me banging on the window in a rage. Does anybody have any suggestions of cat deterrants that actually work? We've tried all sorts but they just ignore it. We even had a deterrant containing lion scent called Silent Roar (!!!!) which is supposed to make them think a big hungry predator is nearby - they didn't give a toss. Ideas anybody...?

Yes people can't understand why you would admit to abusing an animal.
It's disgusting.
I hope if there is a next time you are seen and get your comeuppance.
This is why so many abused animals, people don't see it as wrong.
I'm glad so many people in here are disgusted, makes me think there is actually humanity left in the workd.

kali110 · 06/10/2015 19:08

People may question your intelligence as you just can't seem to understand how wrong it is.
Yes i maybe insulting to you by saying what i'd do if it happened to my cat.
It may not make me a better person, but i wouldn't let someone get away with hurting my animal.

LoveChickens · 06/10/2015 19:15

I wasn't extending an olive branch, I don't care for slanging matches though.

I honestly do not care one bit what you think of me or what I've done. Why would I? You're strangers on the Internet. However I stand by what I've done and I would do it again. My garden is much more important than a cat. I've worked fucking hard for my nice life. Nobody would do that to my dog, I'm a responsible dog owner who clears up the mess.

I'm not a nice person when it comes to cats shitting in my garden, you're right there!

TimonAndPumbaa · 06/10/2015 19:17

Not wanting to get involved in the bun fight or anything but just read the thread and feeling a bit sorry for LoveChickens, she never said she'd squirted bleach at the cats! She said that she used it as a deterrent because her cat owning friend told her that cats hate the smell! And what on earth has having a masters got to do with knowing whether bleach smells like chlorine Confused.

TimonAndPumbaa · 06/10/2015 19:18

Ooops I meant that bleach smell like catnip.

Sparklingbrook · 06/10/2015 19:20

The post was deleted Timon.

I can't believe this is still going. I thought i would unhide it to see.

kali110 · 06/10/2015 19:20

timonyes love said they squirted at the cars, that's why everyone is pissed though i think they're being very goady.
I hope they're seen and reported.
I would definitely report, and put bleach round their whole nice garden, because oh yes a garden is so much more important.

LoveChickens · 06/10/2015 19:21

Me neither! You can never keep away though, that's the love/hate relationship most people have with Mumsnet!

Sparklingbrook · 06/10/2015 19:22

No I will hide it again. it's really boring now.

BrandNewAndImproved · 06/10/2015 19:22

I didn't see her msg as it was deleted! timon, if it's just used as a deterrent I don't see the problem it's her garden after all, but I wouldn't squirt bleach at anything except spiders.

I drown big spiders in the bath with bleach. Get the fuck out my house!

TimonAndPumbaa · 06/10/2015 19:22

Having said that I wouldn't risk using bleach as a deterrent myself. I'm going to look into the sprinklers mentioned upthread. I love animals but when my children are trodding in cat shit on the drive and in the garden it gets really annoying!

LoveChickens · 06/10/2015 19:23

Well yes you can say those things Kali, but you wouldn't actually be able to do it if you didn't see me. I've never been seen.

Yes my garden is way more important. Nobody cares about your animal or child really apart from you.

TimonAndPumbaa · 06/10/2015 19:25

Oh sorry I'm such a slow typer and x posted there. Didn't see where she said she squirted bleach, sorry! Blush

TheOnlyOliviaMumsnet · 06/10/2015 19:25

Good evening all
Just a request for some peace and love
Thanks so much

LoveChickens · 06/10/2015 19:27

Yes SB, it is boring! Well tedious more than anything. Hopefully we will all get tired soon and piss off to bed.

Timon, after the second time my child had cat poor over his hands and in his ear I really couldn't take it anymore. As much as people don't want me to squirt their cats, should I keep allowing my child to get cat shit on his skin? I know what I would rather do!

crumblybiscuits · 06/10/2015 19:27

Your 'nice garden' is not that important that it's worth making an animal sick for.

It's not about the garden looking nice though is it? It's the host of diseases and disgustingness myself and my children are exposed to by people's cats crapping in my garden.

LoveChickens · 06/10/2015 19:27

Point taken Olivia Cake

LoveChickens · 06/10/2015 19:30

Crumbly said it better. Yes I've got my nice garden that we've really worked hard for so yes I don't want it trashed and I don't want my kids picking up anything from shit that could hurt them? Do people really want me to prioritise their cat over my child's health? Righto...

Now I see why people roll their eyes so much at cat poo threads.
I've even started one myself - but this poor OP's one has just become a slanging match. Hope she got the advice she wanted in the first place.

ConferencePear · 06/10/2015 19:41

What a pity this thread has been derailed. Judging from the number of threads we get on cat shit it is a real problem for many people. I don't hate cats - just their shit. I wouldn't dream of doing anything to damage them but at the same time I can't see why I should spend money/time/effort into protecting myself against their cat's shit.

LoveChickens · 06/10/2015 19:42

Hopefully it was people being insulting towards me asleep as myself. Although, I've not reported anyone's posts. Not my thing, so maybe they've not noticed.

I didn't derail the thread. I am a shitty person with regards to cats shitting in my garden, yes.

Yes I resorted to bleach after nothing else helped. After my son got shit on hands for a second time I didn't have much choice. Honestly people the names you're calling me do not unnerve me one bit. It's a bit pointless really! I still haven't changed my stance.

LoveChickens · 06/10/2015 19:43

As well as my myself, ha my phone really is making me look stupid now Grin I think I type too quickly.

LoveChickens · 06/10/2015 19:45

And nobody cares about your animal or child but you? hmm We're not all as callous as

I didn't actually say that. There was a really in there which means of course people care about your child or animal a bit, but not as much as you do. Hence why I will protect my child over your cat.
