AIBU to think that as I don't own a cat I shouldn't have to clear up cat sh*t from my garden every other day??

I choose not to own a cat, and yet once again I find myself this morning in my front garden shovelling up big smelly piles of cat poo. If it was my own pet I wouldn't mind, but I'm really getting the hump with being up to my elbows in sh*t because someone else's pet thinks my garden is a toilet. I love animals -usually - but it's so gross, so stinky and really unhygenic. It was cat diarrhea on my rock plants at the weekend just as we were expecting visitors, just caught the little sod squatting on my plants despite me banging on the window in a rage. Does anybody have any suggestions of cat deterrants that actually work? We've tried all sorts but they just ignore it. We even had a deterrant containing lion scent called Silent Roar (!!!!) which is supposed to make them think a big hungry predator is nearby - they didn't give a toss. Ideas anybody...?

Pretty sure that spraying bleach at any animal could result in a protection for animal cruelty. So no, you don't have the right. Cats don't like getting wet so water from a super soaker will do. Idiot.

hackedoffnow · 06/10/2015 13:06

What about getting the kids to make a scarecrow.

LoveChickens · 06/10/2015 13:10

Oh sorry I didn't realise you were being sarcastic. Just call me a cunt next time then there's no faffing about.

I'm not sure what is wrong with my communication. That's a new one! That doesn't make me thick, I am lying down on my side on a small phone and feeling dreadful though. Nobody pulled me up when I was doing my masters degree.

I honestly don't care if it's cruel. You don't think I have the right. I thought I did. I would do it again. I cannot get worked up about how cats feel.

LoveChickens · 06/10/2015 13:13

They honestly don't, not seen a cat shit in my garden for the two years we have been here. I do have a cockerel though and he is pretty vicious. Even the dog is scared of him. I am actually.

Yes of course you could prosecuted if you got caught and there was evidence. But I didn't, so not relevant really.

No need for personal insults Not.

Sparklingbrook · 06/10/2015 13:13

I would have a sleep if I were you LC.

LoveChickens · 06/10/2015 13:16

I'm not tired. I slept really well amazingly. I'm dipping biscuits in tea.

Anastasie · 06/10/2015 13:19

LOL at Masters degree.

Sparklingbrook · 06/10/2015 13:21

Not feeling that dreadful if drinking tea and eating biscuits. Confused

LoveChickens · 06/10/2015 13:34

Oh come on Sparkling, don't be silly now. Not sure what is funny Ana. I'm not good at this passive agressive stuff. I take things quite literally so if you mean something else it may be better to say that instead of being sarcastic or trying to mock me.

QueenArnica · 06/10/2015 13:37

This is one of those threads that polarises opinion and there is no middle ground. For the record I frigging hate cats with a passion - they are literally the only pet that the owner isn't responsible for cleaning up after. I choose not to have a cat (they are all evil) and it is simply not on for my garden to be a no go zone for my kids at times due to cat shit!
Yes I get fox shit in my garden too but to the best if my knowledge they do not have an owner responsible for them!

EponasWildDaughter · 06/10/2015 13:41

Yay another cat poo thread! Grin (late to the party)

YANBU

Have electronic repellents been suggested yet? The noise ones?

Sparklingbrook · 06/10/2015 13:41

This thread has got really silly. It got worse when there was talk of squirting bleach at cats.

Time to hide it I think. Hope you get it sorted in a humane way OP. Good luck.

ConferencePear · 06/10/2015 13:43

A stop could be put to these threads if just one cat owner could explain to me why I should spend money/time/effort into protecting myself against their cat's shit.

LoveChickens · 06/10/2015 13:50

It did get a bit silly didn't it!

A stop could be put to these threads if just one cat owner could explain to me why I should spend money/time/effort into protecting myself against their cat's shit.

I agree. Nobody wants to hurt cats but I will do whatever it takes to make sure my kids don't get cat shit on their hands. It's not nice having paw marks over your car constantly either. After exhausting all the options then what can you do?

LolLolLoLol · 06/10/2015 14:00

Not sure if it's been suggested already but the motion activated water squirter pet repellent work brilliantly.

There are a few types. I use contech scarecrow - I got them on Amazon. Basically the cats set of the motion detector and it fires a jet of water at them. It's harmless although it gives the cats a good scare.

The cats don't even come in my garden anymore but when they did it was almost amusing watching them get squirted. Blush

Anastasie · 06/10/2015 14:27

I was mocking the way you casually slipped the fact you have a 'masters degree' into your post, as though that means you are actually secretly very clever.

Anastasie · 06/10/2015 14:30

'Nobody wants to hurt cats'

'I honestly don't care what it does to cats'

Make your mind up. For someone who takes everything literally you don't seem completely sure what you are trying to say.

LoveChickens · 06/10/2015 14:54

You brought up the fact that you thought I was stupid, I was just letting you know I'm clearly not.

Oh I can make my mind up. I don't give a shiny shit about cats. I don't care if I hurt them if they piss me off. Deep down I obviously don't want to hurt them but I will if I have to. Please tell me you can grasp that?

LoveChickens · 06/10/2015 14:55

'Nobody wants to hurt cats' was more of a generalisation than me personally though of course. I'm sure you knew that though...

kali110 · 06/10/2015 15:00

No op some cats won't go in a litter trays. When we lived with the mil there were 4 cats ( all strays) and two would not use a tray.
Not their fault, they'd been used to going anywherez
Luckily they have patches in the garden and next door!
( which is a relative so it's fine!).
I love cats but i have sympathy.
We have other cats coming in and using our garden too.

kali110 · 06/10/2015 15:03

Seriously?? Bleach?
Why is that a there will be a thread about a poor dog being kicked and there is outrage yet people are open about abusing cats??
Yes chickens you are abusing cars, that is vile.
Id bleach you if i saw that.

Scoobydoo8 · 06/10/2015 15:14

Haven't read the thread but if you have larch lap fencing paint your side round teh top with burglar deterrent paint, it's black and never dries. I've used it to stop mice eating fruit in the garden and it works. But is messy so no good if others will be brushing against it.

MissEeerie · 06/10/2015 15:32

YA definitey NBU.

I said what you're doing is vile but i think there's something wrong with a person who could happily abuse an animal and brag about it.
I'd be horrified if my parents did that.
Neighbours cats crap in my garden and come in my house, i dont think 'oh i know ill just put some bleach on them!'
Who thinks like that? I'd be horrified if my kid did that.
Just glad you don't live near me.
