To ask how long a typical bf session is?

Just wondering how long your 6 month old (or thereabouts) bfs for per session. Mine seems to be latched for a very long time and wondering if it is comfort sucking. Thanks.

Anywhere between 2 mins and 45/50 not helpful I know but it very much depends on her mood and what else is going on (although she's 8months not 6 it's pretty much been the same) she did have a big growth spurt around 5/6 months though a fed a lot then

How long is a piece of string? DD was lighting fast, and I had a lot of milk so a couple of minutes. But some babies feed for ages.

At 6 months one of my DC had just about decreased the time to 45 mins. The other DC had been steady at 20 mins each feed.

DD used to bf for anything from 5 to 25 minutes, usually about ten. In the evenings, however, she would cluster feed for hours.

DD used to take over an hour. She didn't have a very strong suck.

I had a strong let down, but I just seem to produce insatiable milk monsters with huge appetites.

Sometimes 5, sometimes 50. She's still the same now at 1, especially as I still feed to sleep at night.

I missread that as bj session!

Ds1 - hours! Ds2, who I learnt to detach when he wasn't actively feeding, 10 mins.

It varied so much with mine, depending on how hungry they were, how distracted, how tired, if they were poorly, on a growth spurt... but mine were always slow feeders, with a lot of cluster feeding thrown in for good measure. Sorry!

Both of mine did about 20 minutes when they were very little, by 3 months they were racing through both sides in less than 15. They always had a little phase at the end though when they were dozy and milk drunk, doing little fluttery sucks whilst falling asleep - I rarely took them off, let them unlatch themselves. Apparently they get a lot of milk even at that stage, your breasts just keep the flow going. And of course there is nothing wrong with a bit of comfort sucking if you don't have to be anywhere/do anything and it isn't causing you discomfort.

Ds2 is 6.5 months and a normal feed is 5 mins max. Dream feed and first one in the morning about 10mins as I know he's comfort sucking at the end!

DS 45 mins to an hour.
DD 2-5 mins. Lightening fast and less frequent, just a far more efficient feeder and I had more milk second time around.

mine would have happily sat there for hours so had to learn to watch when he would stop gulping and start doing the whole fluttery tongue thing.

Yabu to ask here, its not an aibu, there is a whole topic for this. And the answer is "how long is a piece of string" anyway, since everyone is different.

Child 1: 40 - 60 minutes
Child 2: 10 minutes flat (but also got blocked ducts a lot, so longer might be better)

Avg 15 mins. But at night much longer.

I don't think it is unreasonable Jawanna. That topic gets no traffic. And I'm sure everyone would have thought it fine if my question had been 'how long is a typical bj session' (as someone misread) .
