To want to be able to buy squash with sugar in it!

When I was pregnant I went off the taste of things sweetened with artificial sweeteners, just tasted wrong. Tried now not pregnant and still find "artificial" squash tastes wrong - too sweet and not right. Robinsons seem to only have No Added Sugar now, and the supermarkets don't have much choice either. Generally have to make special trip to big supermarket to get anything other than orange.

I get that there's an obesity crisis but surely we should be able to choose whether we have sugar or sweeteners. I choose to have sugar but less often, only that choice now seems to be being removed.

Can't justify the price of Bottle Green / posh cordials as DH drinks loads as he doesn't like plain water and gets migraines if dehydrated. He's also gone off sweeteners as not used to the taste.

Sweeteners also useless as base for cheap sports drink!

Bloody Nanny State.

Make your own?

TillITookAnArrowToTheKnee · 03/10/2015 13:32

YADNBU. I don't want artificial sweeteners. I'd rather have sugar on the odd occasion I do drink squash.

WorraLiberty · 03/10/2015 13:32

YANBU

I feel exactly the same.

My local Morrisons seems to only one squash left with sugar in, and that's probably on the way out too.

I thought they were supposed to provide customers with choice?

Welshmaenad · 03/10/2015 13:33

Some of the tesco high juice range have sugar not sweeteners.

WildStallions · 03/10/2015 13:33

I agree!

I won't touch artificial sweeteners. And I certainly won't let my DC have it.

DragonMamma · 03/10/2015 13:34

I was about to say the same as Welsh - I get the Tesco High Juice as I don't like the kids having sweeteners either.

Madbengalmum · 03/10/2015 13:35

Doesnt proper orange/lemon barley water have sugar rather than sweeters?

Daisypod · 03/10/2015 13:35

Asda high juice also have ones without artificial sweetners in too and not too pricey

randomsabreuse · 03/10/2015 13:35

Eventually maybe. Currently (8wo DD) it's a good day when I can make lunch and dinner at a sensible time let alone optional cooking.

I do like a couple of drops of lemon/lime juice in water (unsweetened) DH doesn't!

Also have to have limited citrus at the moment if I don't want to spend all day changing clothes and wiping the floor :-(

YANBU I really really hate artificial sweeteners and "reduced sugar" things.

Though I also hate "low fat" stuff (which often has a load of extra sugar dumped into it to make it taste ok). Ironically I find that it is the same people buying the "no sugar" and the "low fat" stuff.

Can't we just be trusted to buy the full sugar/fat versions and then, perhaps, regulate our own intake?

Branleuse · 03/10/2015 13:39

ribena original doesnt have sweetners in it

j0j080 · 03/10/2015 13:39

Tesco have some, look for the ones with the green lid rather than the blue one. M&S do some too, I have been loving the pink grapefruit with fizzy water!

DriverSurpriseMe · 03/10/2015 13:39

Have a look at the "high juice" squashes. There are always "no added sugar" and regular versions.

randomsabreuse · 03/10/2015 13:39

High Juice is sadly a big supermarket range round here so 35 mile round trip. Local supermarkets (garage Tesco, coop, Aldi and medium Sainsbury's) have at most an Orange squash in Hi Juice and 10 choices in no added sugar.

Probably should start buying groceries on line I guess!
