National minimum wage?

I've started a new part time job recently and I got my contract yesterday. I thought the pay rate was a bit lower than expected, £6.50/hour, but I've just been reading on another thread that NMW is £6.70/hour.
Does anyone know if part timers are entitled to NMW or does it only apply to full timers?
I want to get my facts straight before I go in and ask for a backdated pay rise!

Bugger, that was meant to be in Chat
Ok, AIBU to expect to be paid NMW when I only work 12 hours a week?

Minimum wage is minimum wage regardless of how many hours you work, it also varies depending how old you are, the current rates are online

The £6.70 rate only came in two days ago. Give them a chance.

SecretNutellaFix · 03/10/2015 11:24

It was advertised at £6.50 NMW as that is what was the NMW until 1st October. It has now gone up to £6.70. No need to complain until you get your first payslip and see that they've paid you incorrectly. ;)

Minimum wage only changed on October 1st, so for last month you would only have earnt £6.50/h.

See what next months payslip says before kicking up a fuss. It only changed on Thursday!

I am mid 30's so definitely old enough.
I didn't realise that things have only just changed so that would explain it, I will make general enquiries then, not go in all guns blazing!

It'll be done automatically. Wait until you get your payslip.
