I'm in the office on my own. I've been trying get the bastard lid off a glass medicine bottle for 40 minutes.

I'm about to chuck the bastard hard and lick the medicine off the sodding wall.

Does anybody have any idea how to get it off?

Give it to a child. Open in seconds.

Try wrapping a slightly damp cloth round the lid, then push and turn as you usually would. The damp cloth gives a bit more grip.

Put the lid in a door jamb, squashing it at the right points, close the door over on it, it will grip like a demon as you apply pressure on the door, and turn the bottle.

It may mark the woodwork, but the bottle will open!

If it's a new bottle it's easy to just pull the whole lid off if the bit of breakaway plastic is still attached.

Just had a stinking cough and the childproof bottles are ridiculously hard to open so I just did this slips off like a dream.

Sometimes they break, its probably not you. I had this with night nurse. Get a hair grip or something similar and wiggle it between the plastic outer and inner bit as far as you can, then turn

Do you have access to rubber gloves? They can also provide extra grip.

Elastic bands are your friend. Wrap around offending object and twist.

Be honest - you took the bottle out and ran over it, didn't you? It is open, but the pills have been crushed into the tarmac

You just place it on a hard surface, press down with all your weight and turn with the lid between your thumb cushion and heel of your hand.
