To use a potty (kitchen bowl)

nadadise · 02/10/2015 06:35

Our toilet has broken, can't afford to fix it.

Is it really awful to use a kitchen washing up bowl?

Blush

I hate doing it but I can't think of any alternatives. Any ideas?

can you ask for an advance on your salary?

nadadise · 02/10/2015 11:22

I wouldn't take any money even if someone offered me a million pounds. Don't accuse me of making this up in such a tone 'I hope I'm wrong.' No. You ARE wrong and I think I deserve an apology. Not that I will get one.

Perhaps I should have taken a photograph of what I had to do this morning?

I don't really want to ask for an advance. We are fine - which I have said all along - I have a permanent job with contracted hours and it pays monthly. However due to a long uncertain patch I did not have regular hours for ages and so I've had to spend most of septembers salary on paying back debts and settling bills. What's left is for food and petrol. So we are fine. I just wondered if anyone knew any temporary and cheap alternatives to a kitchen bowl and I'm lying about where I poo, asking for money, shouldn't have broadband and my child is at risk.

Confused

Now I really am NOT a troll and I know it's a sign of weakness on here to admit somethings upset you and got under your skin but that accusation has.

Do you know anyone who might be kind enough to cast an eye in return for a favour after pay day? A neighbour, colleague?

OP is right, that was incredibly offensive, Vulcan.

nadadise · 02/10/2015 11:28

No, I don't know anyone. I don't mean to sound short but if I knew someone I would already have asked them.

itsmine I'm at work so I won't take that advice thanks. I will try the soda first. Thank you. Can that now be an end of this as I am a bit sick of being told I am irresponsible/liar/after Mumsnetters money because my fucking toilet won't flush.

Thanks, Jeeves

It just seems odd that you haven't responded to certain posters like the one with a Plumber Brother and others that would normally be replied to.
At the end of the month when your toilet is fix and flowing again and an update is given I will issue a full an sincere apology and be glad to. That's if you'd still want one, wouldn't blame you if you didn't.

VulcanWoman · 02/10/2015 11:38

Jeeves, is my suggestion so far fetched. This is my last post on this thread as don't want to cause any more offence if genuine. OP, there is no need to keep defending yourself either, there's nothing to defend is there.

nadadise · 02/10/2015 11:42

Ok.

The one with a plumber brother lives in Essex. I am literally at the opposite end of the country in the north west. I am afraid I was rushing around this morning and posting at the same time and it isn't remotely 'odd' I would miss posts. Nor is it odd that someone who works full time wouldn't on a working day have gone to the £1 shop yet.

Your post is so breathtakingly arrogant Shock I have to come back here and provide proof of my fixed toilet and then you will apologise? And you are still using language that makes it clear you think I am lying when I have said I won't accept money and that I am upset by your posts. Yet you 'don't want to cause offence' - well if you don't, why post offensive things? Shock

I'm seriously Shock at your responses, Vulcan.

Give the woman a break. She came on for help to seek another solution and because she's working (as she's said herself) she hasn't got time to go through and respond to every single reply.

I bloody hope I don't ever feel the need to ask for help on here.

nadadise · 02/10/2015 11:51

Thanks.

Vulcan when I get in (probably around 5) I will flush the toilet and send you a photograph. I really, really will. I wish I could do it right now but I'm at work.

I have had an awful year and am out of it now. The toilet is just the remains of what's left - soon be sorted, no real biggie. I know it can be sorted by the end of October. I honestly just wanted helpful suggestions on what to do in the interim.

No way do I want money. I work full time and actually now earn a good salary. It'll just take a month or so before I'm secure again. So please don't say I am asking for money - I would NEVER do this and even if someone offered I wouldn't take them up on it!

Itsmine You say insults, I say facts. Her posts were horrible and I think my wording accurately describes her. Smile

ImperialBlether · 02/10/2015 12:03

If you are in Merseyside or roundabout then I'm happy to drive to yours and give you a toilet unblocker! It's a thing from B&Q which is great for unblocking toilets. It's a bit like this.

PM me - happy to do you a favour!

And we say Personal Attack, which is why we deleted your post. Wink

Can we move on from this and get back to offering the OP some advice and support please?

Many thanks Flowers

nadadise · 02/10/2015 12:04

Not far actually Imperial and I may well take you up on that. :)

I'll Pm you in about an hour - will explain why on PM!

SaucyJack · 02/10/2015 12:06

Hydrochloric acid also works wonders on blocked toilets. I've had to do it myself a couple of times. You can buy it for a couple of quid from your local hardware store. Often called "Spirits of Salts".

But completely disregard the above if you've already put caustic soda down. Strong chemicals are fine to use as a one-off, but never, ever, ever mix drain unblockers unless you have a chemistry degree or a death wish.

Good luck. This is an easy everyday problem that you can sort out with a fiver and half an hour. Honest!

Mintyy · 02/10/2015 12:09

If you are working and have a good salary I really and truly do not understand why you won't ask for a small advance - if you are unable to unblock the toilet yourself. Also, light bulbs for bathrooms only cost a few pence surely?

Bagging up and throwing away poo is unspeakably disgusting. Please don't do this.

KoalaDownUnder · 02/10/2015 12:11

OP, Google 'dishwashing liquid unblock toilet'. It really, honestly works (used it once myself when I was in tears I was so desperate and had no money for a plumber).

It's something like:

Pour 1/2 cup of undiluted dishwashing liquid into the toilet (right into the bottom where the clog is, not down the sides, IYSWIM)

Let it sit for 10 minutes

Fill a bucket with very hot water and pour it from a height into the toilet.

It will go 'whoosh', promise.

PaulAnkaTheDog · 02/10/2015 12:12

Fair enough dawn.

Apologies for the 'personal attack' but her posts really are disgusting. I personally think her implying that the op is doing this for cash is a personal attack on op but hey ho, it was a carefully worded one so obviously allowed.

PaulAnkaTheDog · 02/10/2015 12:13

Apologies. I see her post was also deleted. I missed that due to her not being publically reprimanded for what she said.

CloudsofBrick · 02/10/2015 12:16

I completely agree with you nadadise.

In a similar vein, like you I would try all things suggested but wouldn't be rushing off to borrow money/beg from family/ask for an advance on salary if I knew it was a short term thing.

We're doing up our house on limited funds. OH is trying to do most things himself but managed to cock up some plumbing under the sink mid month, causing quite a fierce leak. As a result we turned the water off for a couple of weeks until we had the cash to fix it and only turned it on to collect buckets of water to help us flush solid matter down the loo or to have a shower (during which time the other person would catch water from the leak).

There was a time when if it wasn't possible to fix a problem, people would make do until they could instead of rushing to accumulate debt. That's what we do, as long as we're not putting anyone in our house at risk.

(At the moment we have no big lights downstairs or on the landing because OH has turned his hand to electrics Hmm. It'll get sorted as soon as we have spare cash!)
