But provide well, food.

So what do you do if you're ok for food but have no petrol?

Walk?

sharonthewaspandthewineywall · 01/10/2015 19:44

There really is no comparison between food and petrol.
Apart from petrol is food for cars!

Ridingthegravytrain · 01/10/2015 19:46

Eh

goawayalready · 01/10/2015 19:49

walk what do you do? and some people who go to food banks have already sold the car or borrowed against it

ReallyTired · 01/10/2015 19:50

Maybe the troll has been to the foodbank and has started a goady thread to get fed.

Some mumsnetters have been in the unfortunate position of needing to go to a foodbank.

parrotsummer · 01/10/2015 19:52

Sorry? Who is a troll? Me?

I'm not a troll. I'm genuinely wondering what you do if you have ran out of money (I have unfortunately and no I'm not asking on here for it and I wouldn't take it even if someone offered) but I am OK for food. It's other stuff.

You have to sell something. Cash converters do pawning.. My ex puts his telly in there regularly.

parrotsummer · 01/10/2015 20:00

Dope meds what 'other stuff' you need? My local food bank also collects things like nappies, toilet roll, baby wipes, sanitary products.

Essential but non-food items.

Rinoachicken · 01/10/2015 20:01

Depends! Not dope meds!! (Don't think any food banks do those!!)

ReallyTired · 01/10/2015 20:01

People who are forced to use a foodbank often feel a sense of shame. Maybe the people who run or contribute to food banks are good people, but there should be no need for foodbanks to exist in a civilised society.

I think that the title for this thread could upset people who feel that food banks should not exist. It is a shit state of affairs that people have to beg for food in a wealthy developed country. Thankfully I have no experience of food banks to know whether they "do a marvellous job." Certainly I don't think its marvellous that they exist, infact I feel its disgrace.

MrsHathaway · 01/10/2015 20:01

It's the biggest argument against "give out benefits in food vouchers" I think - how do you pay for bus fares and school shoes and hair cuts and the million and one other totally legitimate expenses that aren't food?

I'm worried that the food banks will have suffered because of generous donations for Calais/Syria. Most people redirect their charitable giving rather than maintaining their usual donations and adding new ones on top.

I think it could be a pretty hard autumn/winter for the food banks.

Allyoucaneat · 01/10/2015 20:05

I understand what you mean op (I think). We have one food bank serving a large town and it's location is quite obscure on an industrial estate, it would cost £6.70 for me to get the bus there (5.5miles so no chnace of walking it). If I was relying on a foidbank chances are I wouldn't have £6.70 to get there. It also only opens Tues and Thursday.

Thank goodness I have never been in the position where I've had to use a foidbank.

parrotsummer · 01/10/2015 20:07

Yeah I wouldn't be able to get there either :) don't have the petrol!

But like I say we're OK for food.

If someone's upset by my saying food banks do a marvellous job then I am sorry they are upset but I'm afraid I'm not going to apologise for a perfectly civil post.
