To be unhappy with this school trip?

Ds2 is in reception and has come home with a letter advising us of a school trip to a farm in December. The cost is a reasonable amount for the farm that will be visited, however the main focus of the visit is having lunch with Santa, and receiving a gift.

It is the visiting Santa that I feel odd about. I see this as a very family based event, and not something I would expect to do with anybody else, or without his sibling. We wouldn't even refer to him as Santa at home, and it just feels strange to me.

I have spoken to the head who informed me that this will be backing up their learning for that term, and advised that I have the option of attending, but it still feels wrong to me. So is this normal, do schools regularly take a trip to visit Father Christmas?

Not just any old French schooling. Private French schooling.

ilovesooty · 02/10/2015 16:34

In my opinion the area of disagreement would be conflictual, especially if protracted.

Making a report to the authorities in itself would be better described as a confrontational action.

However I'm only a former teacher with a lower IQ than the average four year old. Grin

Not just any old French schooling.PrivateFrench schooling.

Mea maxima culpa, as us half eejits say.

SirChenjin · 02/10/2015 16:42

I'm sorry - I don't speak French. Come again?

TheSwallowingHandmaiden · 02/10/2015 16:42

Bobo, I suspect your methods are secretly admired by some on here who storm around mn throwing their considerable weight around whilst tiptoeing around RL issues such as this Wink

SirChenjin · 02/10/2015 16:43

Ilove - you say you are a former teacher, but are you a Frenchy former private school teacher?? That appears to be the nub.

abbieanders · 02/10/2015 16:45

I'm sorry - I don't speak French. Come again?

Just some non conflictual legalese.

ilovesooty · 02/10/2015 16:47

No just a bog standard state secondary teacher - who according to BoboChic left because I couldn't hack the job. Grin

I did teach French for a bit at one point though.

TheSwallowingHandmaiden · 02/10/2015 16:47

Ha ha! Laughing at the notion that Bobo's methods are in any way less well-looked-upon than the board of governors who are hated by teaching staff and is usually populated by those who were aching to have some authority somewhere in their lives but nobody ever quite deferred to them.

Shutthatdoor · 02/10/2015 16:51

Bobo, I suspect your methods are secretly admired by some on here

I doubt that very much

SirChenjin · 02/10/2015 16:54

I am most impressed by your legalese - those bus tours in France have paid off.

ilove - if only you'd not taught French, your iq could have been so much higher Grin

abbieanders · 02/10/2015 16:56

Thanks. I did run it by my legal team first though. 175 snots well spent, I reckon.

SirChenjin · 02/10/2015 17:06

Absolutely well spent. Parturient montes, nascetur ridiculus mus and all that. My legal team has buggered off for the weekend (or they are buggering for the weekend, I can't quite remember which one they said it was) so can't check the legalese of that - but I'm sure it's fine.

NaughtToThreeSadOnions · 02/10/2015 17:10

Really you think we admire them?!

If by admire think she's completely bleeding bonkers yep!

And by French mumsnet I meant boards populated by mothers who knew the culture and system and presumably wouldn't think she's bonkers!

abbieanders · 02/10/2015 17:11

If not, my legal team will address the issue in due course. I wouldn't like to overreact, but I suspect I may be in a position to expect substantial damages from you when this case inevitably goes to court.

SirChenjin · 02/10/2015 17:15

Favete linguis. My legal team will see off your legal team. I'll bring in a legal team to advise my legal team to ensure conflictual things and stuff.

abbieanders · 02/10/2015 18:08

My expert legal team will make your legal team look like a bunch of teachers. Non conflictually, of course. I do trust we'll remain on good terms as you sell your home and children to pay my damages.

SirChenjin · 02/10/2015 18:28

I have assembled my crack legal team from across France and they are ready to kick your non conflictual derrières.

I can picture this .... DC comes home with homework .. Bobo ... checks contacts ... discovers no homework clause and tells DC not to bother ... DC comes home with a detention letter ... Bobo (rubs hands) rings lawyers.... You are a right fighter, you set people up to fail, so you feel good about yourself ... well done (slow clap)

Mehitabel6 · 02/10/2015 19:21

I go out all day and am astounded at how the thread went. My first thought was 'is she for real'? However I suppose she must be! (No guesses for working out who 'she' is)
I am very thankful that it doesn't happen in UK and I certainly wouldn't send my children to a school where you had to employ a lawyer. No way!

SirChenjin · 02/10/2015 21:10

Looking on the bright side though - it has been one of the best larfs on MN in ages Grin

TheSwallowingHandmaiden · 02/10/2015 21:23

SirChenjin, why are you goading the op?

SirChenjin · 02/10/2015 21:28

Handmaiden - if the OP feels that I'm goading her I'm sure she'll let me know.

Mehitabel6 · 02/10/2015 21:33

I think OP got lost long ago in this thread!

Only1scoop · 02/10/2015 21:37

The Op left about page 2 when she decided she may be being slightly U
