"A true gentleman ruins a lady's lipstick, not her mascara"

AIBU, each and every time I see this guff on Facebook -yes I know, FB is evil etc-- to want to reach into the screen, pull the "sharer" through said screen and yell "HAVE A FUCKING WORD WITH YOURSELF!!!!"

I don't know why it elicits such a response in me, but it really pisses me off.

NB: I have raging PMT, this may go some way to explain the imaginary pulling-through-screen scenario.

Wow you really need to calm down. Such a rage over that? You know you can just ignore.

endoflevelbaddy · 27/09/2015 10:54

YABVU, the one I saw this week had a picture of Tom Hardy with it. Nobody can get that angry when imagining him ruining your lipstick Grin

BrianCoxReborn · 27/09/2015 10:55

Oh I'm sorry I forgot. It's Mumsnet-lite these days isn't it.

Ahem...addition to thread title "lighthearted"

BrianCoxReborn · 27/09/2015 10:56

That's the one I saw endof!

I don't.really get Tom Hardy or Channing Tatum.

I think I'm old before my time.

BrianCoxReborn · 27/09/2015 10:57

Maybe if it was a picture of Colin Firth as Mr Darcy...

I agree with what you are saying OP but actually reading how many women often put up with shitty relationships, it doesn't do any harm to remind (particularly young) women that relationships should be positive and respectful

MabelSideswipe · 27/09/2015 10:59

Yeah because I am sure Tom Hardy has always been lovely to all women he has been involved with. Sadly I am not talking from experience Grin.

BrianCoxReborn · 27/09/2015 10:59

Don't bring reason into this Gary!

God I hate people being reasonable

OP posts:
BrianCoxReborn · 27/09/2015 11:03

Do you TH admirers not find him a bit try-hard?like he's trying to be sooo bad and rough, but really he's from a naice MC background with bunnies and loveliness? Like Guy Ritchie.

HermioneWeasley · 27/09/2015 11:06

I don't get what's wrong with it. It's a bit twee, but agree it's a good reminder that you shouldn't be crying in a healthy relationship.

I've seen worse on FB!

WorraLiberty · 27/09/2015 11:09

Just tell them "Your inspirational quotes have inspired me to unfriend you"

They'll soon get the message.

BrianCoxReborn · 27/09/2015 11:12

I'd have nobody left on Facebook Worra! Grin

I don't know why, Hermione, I really don't. I get that it's a positive in a world of patriarchal negatives...but, it makes me rage and I can't explain why.

I'm with you OP in general memes can fuck off! Have an original thought you idiots, don't post some trite shite hoping it will make you seem deep. It does not!

ClashCityRocker · 27/09/2015 11:19

It would be a good reminder of a healthy relationship if it wasn't accompanied by a picture of christian grey, in the ones I've seen.

WorraLiberty · 27/09/2015 11:21

I once saw two people having an inspirational 'meme-off' in a Facebook group.

I posted this and totally won.

Ok so I got banned from the group, but omg it felt good Grin

A True Gentleman...
ClashCityRocker · 27/09/2015 11:21

But yes, I hate them too.

Especially 'share if you've got a daughte/son you love'.

ClashCityRocker · 27/09/2015 11:22
BrianCoxReborn · 27/09/2015 11:26

ClashCity - that's it!! It seems to be the people who obsess over that twat Christian Grey, who share this trite.

I think maybe it's that I've confused my hatred of "he's mean to you but he loves you and has money" that the first book/film perpetuates to young girls, with "ok, now here's another trite meme to tell you how to feel/act/love"

I realise over invested and overthinking. I'm about 2days away from period and ready to strangle something. Probably best my rage is aimed at FB and not real life Grin

Osolea · 27/09/2015 11:27

I don't like it either, but for different reasons. I find it wierd that so much of this Facebook motivational shit seems to assume that men are either perfect or evil and women are always innocent victims that need protection.

I wouldn't object if it weren't so sexist, and encouraged men as well as women to recognise that they deserve to be respected, and encouraged women as well as men to treat their partners well, but it never does.

MabelSideswipe · 27/09/2015 11:27

BrianCoxReborn - you are right. He is nice to look at but he is from the mean streets of Richmond and as middle class as they come.

iamaboveandBeyond · 27/09/2015 11:33

Yanbu. Lets not even discuss the "rules for dating my daughter" ones...

StickyProblem · 27/09/2015 11:34

Rofl Worra! (hope saying Rofl doesn't make me look like a Facebook meme twat)

I'm not mad about the meme because the idea of "ruining lipstick" sounds a bit too forceful. Don't ruin mascara, fine, won't argue with that.

I heard Tom Hardy intervewed once, he spoke in a weird gangsta rap style and referred to himself as "Tommy Hardeh", very odd. I like him though, I think all really good actors are barking, as they spend so long trying to be other people.

Brian watch Tom Hardy as Heathcliff in the ITV version of Wuthering Heights, he is fantastic. His wife Charlotte Riley is in it too, that's how they met, every time I see them on a red carpet I remember them galloping over the moors on the same horse and think "bless them!" Brilliant! That's what made me "get" him, not all that Hollywood muscle bullshit he does now.

cocobean2805 · 27/09/2015 11:39

At least it's wasn't next to a picture of a suave looking minion.

Curiouserandcuriouser30 · 27/09/2015 11:41

Yep, they give me the rage too. And I do not believe for one second they encourage healthy relationships, if anything this sort of patriarchal bullshit makes the problem worse.

Saw this one recently, shared with the caption "love this" Hmm

A True Gentleman...
Cactuar · 27/09/2015 11:46

That is truly awful curioser!!
